I am purchasing a Pioneer 106D, and want to know if Memorex brand -+R discs will work. I am purchasing 2x DVD-R because its a good deal, but my burner is able to run 4x. Also, is there any hacks, or downloads that I should use to optimise my dvd burning experience. Thanks

It depends on who makes them. If RICOH/Ritek do, then they should be fine. You'll only know when you use them.
For the 106/A06 there isn't any firmware or hacks out for it as of yet. It seems to do the job well as is. -
I bought the Memorex +R's and they work great at 4x. For the first time a +R was recognized in my Aiwa DVD player which I thought only played -R's.
