ok i hear that windows 2000 is best for capturing but since icant get a hold of a copy thats ruled out.
now im running on win 98 with a ati aiw radeon 8500dv. on the official manual it says it does not support win 98 but it still works except for the firewire and all that. so is it worth it to move up to xp for this or any other reason that i may not know of??

xp is a bit more stable in my opinion as well as the fact that you'll be moving up to an NTFS file system, which will eliminate the 4GB file size barrier.
Another thing to think about is the fact that Microsoft will either be or already has stopped support for 98. -
You can always dual-boot XP and 98 like me. But if I had to choose one, it would be XP. Make sure to format capture HDD with NTFS.
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........ -
XP with NTFS file system hands down. You should have 512 ram, 256 at the least and as large hard drive as possible. If you can aford it a seperate hard drive just for your captures would be nice. ............ harrymj3

thx for all the help
I have a 10 gig and a 40 gig, would a 10 gig harddrive be good enough to run xp on?? -
10 gig is enough to run XP on but make sure you tweak all the settings out.

Really no reason to keep using Windows 98. It is 2003 after all =)
XP is great for capturing and it will most likely handle all your other needs better as well.
