I would check Tucows, CNet, etc... sometimes they aren't super quick in updating their current versions, so they might have the last 5.5.x.x release still available.

otherwise, you can check HERE for 5.5.7.8

I downloaded the latest version of Nero at their website just fine. It's listed in their downloads section or sometimes listed right on the front page itself. It's frustrating to have to download a new version every month. And now I just saw in the BB ad that Nero 6 is out! Argh! Guess I'll have to go over and shell out the cash for that. Maybe this time their ASPI layers will work with audio programs, I hate ripping audio at 1x speed.

The Nero website has version 5.5.10.42 which I think is the latest v5.5 build. I was just pointing out that Nero 6 is out so there won't be any more updates to v5.5 I'm guessing.

  7. Thanks for the link. Yes, I'm looking for the last 5.5 version. I don't like the "cartoon look" and the bloated new version 6 of Nero. (the same reasons I stay away from Win XP)

instructions to make aspi layer work

Where can I get aspi32 drivers for Windows?
Nero's ASPI driver from Ahead Software.

For Windows NT4, Windows 2000 and Windows XP:
Download ftp://ftp6.nero.com/wnaspi32.dll. Copy wnaspi32.dll to the %windir%\System32 folder or to your application directory (no need for reboot).

    For Windows 95/98/ME:
Download ftp://ftp6.nero.com/NeroASPIen.exe and read the readme.txt file.

More info can be found on Nero's download page.
Bart says: "This aspi manager from Nero is great, I can really recommend it"...

WHEN U COPY TO WINDOW SYSTEM 32 FOLDER. IF IT ASK U TO OVERWRITE THE OLD WNASPI32.DLL SAY YES

If that's your reason not to go to XP than you're really missing out. I haven't had one blue screen of death on my two XP machines but I get them occasionally at work running 2000 Pro and 2000 Server.

Thanks for the info on the ASPI layer. I'll have to try that out. And I wouldn't overwrite the old DLL, just add .old to the end of it. The biggest reason I'm thinking of getting Nero 6 is because AFAIK 5.5 can't do system back-ups on NTFS drives, which is all that I'm running. If the new version fixed this then I'll be interested. Or maybe I'll just go get Ghost. Whichever makes it easier to do backups.
