How many people here have used the new Nero 6 version and what do you think about it compared to the old versions? I stopped using Nero for quite some time because of compatibility problems while playing back on standalone players, but I tried out the new 6.0 version and i'm quite impressed. They have fixed the combatibility on DVDs and it works great on all of my standalone players. What do you guys think about it?

    Nero? To burn DVD's?

    *shudder*

Not sure I'd be willing to try it.

Of course, I've heard from more than a couple people that the new Roxio 6 does a KICKASS job of PAL->NTSC or NTSC->PAL conversions, and doesn't ass-rape your system like 4 and 5 did. Hmm...

  4. Will not talk about all the software that come with Nero 6.

Nero 6 is basicly the same as Nero 5.5. no real improvement beside new icons and a topdown menu to select your Burner..

I have it for 2 week and it work exactly like the last 5.5

Well, ok. I have tried it, and it works better than 5.5 for DVD's. BUT they dumbed down the interface.

    WHY?

    OH WHY?

Actually it's not bad at all.

The new and improved version of Nero 6 will be available tomorrow. It is supposed to add new features beyond what is available in the Nero 6 that is sold in retail stores. We shall see. =)

    Yirkin,

By "new and improved" do you mean "Ultra"?

Just go to their web page and read about it. I think the origional Nero 6 was called Ultra too. They delayed the web release for a week to add some new features which I assume will be available as a patch to people who bought the retail version.

  13. I've got nero 5 for two weeks now and I'm 50/50 satisfied.
On my pc with the dvd burner I've noticed no problem (I burn only dvd's most of the time) but on my second pc with a traxdata cd burner I can't use some of the writing method, I have had a lot of coasters before I understand that it was nero (I've made some cd for my dreamcast, I thought it was me missing something in the creation of the iso).

Nero never was THE software to burn dreamcast cd... you need Diskjuggler any "nero conversion" will make a coaster...

NEro is a real good software.. I use it for 2 year now and it always worked find if you know what you are doing

  15. One difference seems to be that they cache much more before starting to write.
My friend says he can now burn VCDs at speed 16x without any problems. Before even 8x would produce lots of squares in the movie

So no one did clarify where the actual Download for 6 is. The Web site says is out today but it still isn't there. Are they delaying it yet AGAIN????

    Ok, I need help!

Having been a happy Nero User for a couple of years, ever since version 4, I was very excited about version 6 comming out. I went out and baught the retail version at my local Bestbuy and I have since installed it a couple of times and everytime I try to burn to my DVD=RAM Mashita drive on my Gateway 500 machine, it say that "the drive is being used by another application" !!!!!! WHatt application???

As soon as I unistall it and re-install Nero 5.5 it recognizes my DVD-RAM drive. Yes, I did choose the correct recorder prior to attempting to burn. I can only assume that it does not like my particular drive although it will write perfectly well with the Liteon CD/RW on my machine. I will be buying an external firewire/Usb2 DVD/RW for DVD-+R/RW and will try again.

    Any ideas???

Try downloading the newest version from the Nero website in order to upgrade your retail box version. It might help although so far, Nero 6 seems really buggy to me. I bet it will be good once they get it patched a few times but right now it is frustrating me.

  20. My first post... and thanks for everyone here for great info! ANyway, 2 days into playing around with Nero 6. I love it! All of the advanced features and then some are still there. If you prefer the old Nero interface or Express, it's there for you. I even like the Nero Smartstart interface. It looks great and makes making CDs VERY easy for some of my family members who don't need the full blown features of Nero. Just click and go. just what they need. I think this version is a great improvement as far as the GUI goes. Not seeing a whole lot of new features, but I love it all the same. And has worked perfect for my ripped DVD files.

Just read the above quote and take a second for it to sink in. I know all the NERO lovers will now say, NERO is great if you only knew how to use it, or it has always worked for me. Well it does work but not on all DVD players!!!!! Please, just think about it. This and many other forums are packed with ex-NERO users and their horror stories they tell about the stack of coasters they keep around to remind them selfs not to use NERO.Is this good business???? How in the hell can you release a retail software package that need a patch or two before you can even get it home and installed from the store. Will the NERO lovers ever learn it is CRAPPY software at best. Record Now Max and Burn away. There are many others that also do a very good job but NERO is not among them. Sounds like Mr. Gates might be on the NERO team as a night job.

  23. Doggiedaddy and everone else, you can download the upgrade to Nero 6.0.0.9 on their site. It does add something not in the retail version called Nero Recode. Which is another DVD 9 to DVD 5 encoded. This one looks good, I haven't tried it yet but it seems like DVD Shrink only better. And it DOES have a slider scale for compression. Check it out. Thats what held up the initial release of Nero. That wanted to include it. Good job on their part. Yes, this verison of Nero does seems to work great as with all previous version if you know how to use it correctly. And not just think you do... which is 90% of people who have troubles with it.

I really bought Nero 6 Ultra because of the Nerovision Express application. I was hoping that it would be a nice capture/encode/dvd authoring package which it may turn out to be, but right now it seems all three of those features are broken.

First I tried to capture some video from my VCR. I have not been able to do it because the audio doesn't seem to be working right within Nero. I hear the audio twice so it comes through like "Hello hello there there how how are are you you" for example. Not sure why it is doing that but I certainly can't capture that way. I thought oh well, I can still use VirtualDub to capture which works perfectly.

Next I tried the DVD authoring feature. I had some premade mpg2 files from TMPGEnc Plus that I wanted to put in Nerovision Express, create menus, and burn. First off, it doesn't accept mp2 audio. I thought bummer but no big deal. I assumed that it would keep the video and transcode the audio into Dolby AC-3 which I was happy to see that it does support. But, it doesn't work that way. It wants to reencode everything you give it including already created, dvd ready mpg2 files. There isn't an option to not reencode dvd compliant source files, so that means if I want to use it to make a menu, then it has to encode the video itself.

I gave the encoder a try using a divx file I had on my machine and was happy to see that the Nerovision encoder does maintain the original’s aspect ratio. Problem is that Nero has their own codec that it uses to decode/play divx files which seems to have some big problems. It created a thick distorted line along the bottom of the file. It was visible in the Nero player when viewing the divx file too. Other then that the video encoder looks ok, of course without all the tweaking choices that TMPGEnc or CCE give you.

The last straw really was when I decided to use AC-3 as my audio choice which doesn't work at all. The encoder crashes stating that it can’t find the ac3 dll it needs. A search shows that the dll it wants IS in the Nerovision directory. I tried copying the dll to other directories but it still couldn't find it. Thus, AC-3 is out and the only choice that works is LPCM.

Like I said, Nero may be a great product and I'm sure will be worth the $49 I paid for it but it was not ready for release on the 25th and really needs some patching/feature additions. I haven’t tried any of the other parts of Nero 6 Ultra so I couldn’t tell you how well it works as a backup tool, a jukebox, or for burning data DVDs.

Nero released an outstanding product as usual. People who can't get it to work usually have a crappy system to start with and just won't admit it. Their system is at fault but they blame the software. Same people posting. Try upgrading from Windows 95 and your 300mhz CPU. Try selecting UDF 1.02 next time and your disk will play on any DVD player. I have used every feature in Nero 6 and can find no fault. Yes they are back on top of Roxio and record Now.
