What would be the best low price 4x media for the Sony drives (DRU500a)?

Look for the sales! Best buy, office ma, office depot, compusa etc.
I have used Verbatim 4X & TDK 4X with the dru 500a and firmware 2.0f with no problems.
I just bought over the 4th of july holiday on sale at best buy the TDK spindle of 100 (Normally $189 + Tax) for $137 including tax
That breaks out to be $1.37 per disk for brand name media 4X on sale or under $2 off sale with Tax, or in 15 packs verbatim for $29.99 + Tax and these prices are walk in prices.
I don't think you can beat these prices when on sale at best buy, by going online to shop. If your lazy Best buy keeps running free shipping but it's danged slow. It was HHH on the 4th and I was feeling lazy so I ordered online from best buy's website. The just came today (15th) so it took 11 days. But ease and price!
Your profile doesn't say where you are and that would be helpfull info when you ask best price type questions... So if you are out of the USA then forget the above. Although I have heard that the free shipping from best buy goes to our boy & girls overseas too.
Cheers

I have used a number of datawrite reds 4x in my sony 510. I got them for under a pound each. Might be worth a look.

I had nothing but bad experiences with the Accu's on my DRU-500a. Some swear by them and I'm sure somebody will post how they have burned dozens w/o any issues, but I ended up returning them for a refund.

There was a recent thread here where someone had ordered a bunch different discs from Meritline and did some testing. I think his conclusion was that Optodisc/BeAll (same media) was the best. I just ordered one of their Sony DRU500A samplers so I'll be able to try out a few different brands of 4x media.
I'm currently trying out the CompUSA/Lead Data discs that are on sale at CompUSA for $0.99 each this week. The first one is currently in the drive as I write this and only burning at 1x on the 2.0f firmware(using DVD Decrypter). Hopefully it will be a good burn at least.

Optodisk and BeAll are NOT the same. BeAll are a spinoff company from Samsung, Optodisk are an entirely different company. I've used both brands, and personally the BeAll are far superior.

Accus are actually Lead Data cds, so when you buy an accu (which work great on the sony) you don't really know they are that because they don't put the name on the disk.

I, too, have had nothing but trouble with Accu discs... I ended up returning them all.
Stick with Ritek's if you want a good, trouble-free, 4x disc. -
