It looks like quite a few brands are using that manufacturers discs: https://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia?dvdmediasearch=&dvdmediadvdridsearch=RITEKF1&type=11...+or+List+Media Though I didn't see Sony on that list.

I picked up two 50pc packs of Sony Made In Taiwan +Rs and up pops a Ritek F16 media code. So when did Sony start outsourcing to Ritek?

    This isn't new information.

Sony had Daxon manufacture media to their specs, using the SONYD media codes. D=Daxon.
Daxon went out of business in Q1 2010.
Sony transitioned to Fuji oxonol based Ritek media (RitekF1, RitekF16) F=Fuji oxonol.

You'll find this mentioned in a number of threads at http://www.digitalFAQ.com/forum/forumdisplay.php/blank-media-19.html
Here's one dedicated to it: http://www.digitalFAQ.com/forum/showthread.php/sony-d21-mim-2406.html

RitekF is actually somewhat decent. Not archival, but also not crap.

  12. Being on a big time budget at Office Depot they have (which after I heard how awful they are) Memorex ($14.99 or $19.99 100) or TDK ($14.99 or $19.99 100) Will I see a difference getting the Verbatim 95098 4.7 GB 1X- 16x Branded Recordable Disc DVD+R 100 Disc Spindle ? From Amazon for $23.99.... The reason I put all that information on the Verbatim is I want to make sure that I get the exact right bundle. Do Memorex suck as much as I have read/heard ?

    Yes.

    Get these Verbatim DVD+R: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009YJXMS?ie=UTF8&tag=thdifa-20&linkCode=as2&camp=17...SIN=B0009YJXMS
The current MCC DVD+R (~0-1%) have even less coasters that MCC DVD-R (~1-2%).
