Looking for a DVD Player

Hi all Im looking for help to find a DVD player that will play xvid avi files from a cdr.I was going to buy a xbox and mod chip it but upon reviewing the forum it looks like it wont read a cdr.Ive done the search for a player thingy through this sight and read the reviews here but didnt really have any concrete answers.If this has already been resolved elsewhere here sorry for wasting your time.Thanks for any help for a noob..

to make things worse... xvid != divx. Although they come from the same standard they have subtle but important differences. Players that support "divx" may not even support all of the functionality of 5.04 or the latest divx, xvid is an afterthought. There was a whole LONG thread over at doom9 in the DVD players section with feedback from the official DivX crew about "DivX Certified" players and the like.

Basicly there is still MUCH confusion and nobody really wants to admit the fact that there are no players out there that will play more than about 70% of what's availible unless you are encoding it yourself all the time. The problem is that sigma released a mpeg-4 "DivX" accelerator chip em8500 without actually getting it certified first and now everyone is trying to figure out what to do.

Ok thanks for the fast answer.What you are basically saying is I should wait a while until the divx/xvid problem is sorted to an industry standard and then buy one.Think I will do that thanks..
