  1. Ok guys,
here's the deal. I coughed up some dough for the replaytv 5080 model and have been recording some shows and transfering via ethernet and dvarchive (my ultimate goal is to author some dvd files to test out a/v synch). My problem is the mpeg2 files, which although they play okay in windows mediaplayer, are being recognized as illegal video streams in tmpgenc. Tmpgenc will demux them, but when I try to remux them it won't accept the m2v file and says it is an illegal video stream. Another thing is that when I try to demux in tmpgenc using regular demux, not simple, I see the stats for the mp2(mpa) stream, but the stats for the video are nowhere to be found (I know that its 720 by 480 though, and yada yada).

I have tried demux, fixing gops, and muxing with womble mpeg2 editor, but the resulting dvd files are out of synch, which is a major headache since I bought this unit specifically because of reports that audio synch wasn't much of a problem. Oh and the reason my request is kind of urgent is because the trial period for the replay service ends tomorrow for me, and I would like to see if I can resolve this before I decide to cough up another $250 for the service, uggh...

Oh I was recording at the highest setting, which is 9800kbs, which is at the upper limits of allowable for dvd, I wonder if that has anything to do with it, I will try lower settings, in the meanwhile I am accepting any suggestions, replaytv user or not. thanks,

    hotwings

There isnt much discussion on this board about ReplayTV and how to handle video streams from it. There is another forum on the 'net that hanldes all replayTV stuff.

Do a search on this site, for some older discussion about ReplayTV, as I remember someone had posted a link about 2 months ago about a ReplayTV forum. Hope that helps.

    Good luck.

I've been making DVD's from the 3000 and 4000 Replays for a year or so now, but the 5000 series is a different animal. I do remember reading somewhere that using a program called DVDpatch and rewriting the header info to read 5000kbps instead of 9800kbps helps immensely.

I don't remember where to download that program, though. The ReplayTV forum mentioned is at http://www.avsforum.com

Look for the topic area called ReplayTV and Showstopper PVR's. I usually bypass the discussion of the 5000 series, but there is a LOT of it there...

  6. Womble MPEG2VCR seems to be a good program,
but at $119 a little to expensive.
