Hi guys.
Iīm a newbie in DVD ripping.
Iīve tried to burn to a DVD-5 only the main movie JURASSIC PARK I with 2 audio streams and 2 subtitles and having a lot of problems.
First I used DVDDecryptor to decrypt the main movie, the audio streams and the subtitles of my choice, to my HD.
Then I used InstantCopy to shrink the movie as it was a litle bit longer than a DVD-5 could fit.
And then burned it with the same software.
As this is my first try on burning a DVD, I tried on a DVD-RW first. As it worked fine, I burned the DVD-R but things didnīt work so good this time.
After the 11th chapter the movie kept stopping for several seconds along the way.
I used PRINCO DVD-Rīs, that Iīve heard a lot of people had problems with.
Not knowing if my problem was really with the medium, I decided to try other methods. So this time I used DVD Decryptor to demux the main movie. I ended up with 1 IFO, 2 SUB, 2 AC3 and 4 M2V files, but not having a clue about where to go from here.![]()
My questions are:
1-Do you think my problem was really with the medium or I did sometihg wrong with the softwares?
2-What software I could use to assemble VOBīs to burn a DVD, having the files I mentioned above?
Thanks for your time,
AlexD

Alex, your problem is definitely with your media. Especially since you said the movie was perfect on your RW disk. Princo disks have been known to have issues....I suggest if you are using Princo disks, you burn them @1x and PRAY....those two things should help you as much as possible.
Then I suggest you get yourself some solid media...check the media section of the forum..there are plenty of options to choose from.
But your problem is with media....especially because you had to compress Jurassic Park to begin with. I'm sure your output was over 4.3 GB's..and the truth is...anything over 4 GB's with Princo disks is gonna be hit or miss. Some people have had excellent results with Princo..but the vast MAJORITY have NOT. So it's all a numbers game....your disks aren't as solid as some others...so my suggestion to you would be very simple.
Buy some quality media, use that for anything OVER 4GB'S...and when you get the DVD5's which are 4GB's or LESS...use the Princo's and burn @1x. This method should work like a charm MOST of the time.
The answer to your second question is that there are too many options...but if you like the quality instant copy yields...then continue to use it...the software to transcode in this case is not the cause of your problem. -
Hey Defense,
Thanks a lot for your answer. It was very clear and helped me not to giveup trying to back up my DVDīs.
I thought I was doing something wrong, but itīs much better to know the problem is only with the media.
In other hand, I donīt have the original DVD anymore. It was my friendīs and Iīve returned it already. And I donīt have the IFOīs and VOBīs in my HD. As I said, I ended up with some M2V AC3 and SUB files. Is it possible to re-mux them to get VOBīs, and try to burn to a different media
If yes, please tell me what softwares to use and Iīll find some tutorials.
Thanks,

AlexD,
DVDMaestro is able to handle the mentioned files (M2V AC3 and SUB).
-edit: for .sub files you will need an .sub file converter like Subtitle Workshop v2.01 from urusoft ( www.urusoft.cjb.net ) to convert to format that DVDMaestro supports)
I use it myself and It works great!!!
You also can create chapterpoints and menu's with it...
'HAG
p.s. If you start DVDMaestro for the first time, you probably think it's a bitch to learn, but it is really quite simple if you follow the guides on the doom9 site!!! -
Haggard,
thanks for your reply, but I couldnīt get it to work.
First, Subtitle Workshop didnīt recognize my SUB files.
Second, DVD Decrypter split the main movie into 4 M2V files (3 of them were 1,048,574 KB, and 1 was 727,501 KB). DVD Maestro will only read the first one. Do I have to mix then first to make one big M2V, or Maestro can do it for me?
In other words, Iīve got these files on my HD:
VTS_05 - Stream Information.txt
VTS_05_0.IFO
VTS_05_1 - 0x20 - Subtitle - English - DELAY 86519ms.SUB
VTS_05_1 - 0x22 - Subtitle - Portugues - DELAY 86352ms.SUB
VTS_05_1 - 0x80 - Audio - AC3 - 6ch - 48kHz - DRC - English - DELAY 0ms.AC3
VTS_05_1 - 0x82 - Audio - AC3 - 2ch - 48kHz - DRC - Portugues - DELAY 0ms.AC3
VTS_05_1 - 0xE0 - Video - MPEG-2 - 720x480 (NTSC) - 16~9 - Letterboxed.M2V
VTS_05_2 - 0xE0 - Video - MPEG-2 - 720x480 (NTSC) - 16~9 - Letterboxed.M2V
VTS_05_3 - 0xE0 - Video - MPEG-2 - 720x480 (NTSC) - 16~9 - Letterboxed.M2V
VTS_05_4 - 0xE0 - Video - MPEG-2 - 720x480 (NTSC) - 16~9 - Letterboxed.M2V
Now I want to burn a DVD with only one simple menu with the choices: PLAY MOVIE and LANG/SUB SELECTION
The problems are:
*movie was split in 4 files;
*Subtitle Workshop wonīt recognize my subs in order to convert them;
What are the steps I have to do
Please somebody help me.

alex, Haggard is right...you are on the right path...you just have to use the "DEMUX TO EXTRA FILE" option in DVD Decrypter. What you have to do is use DVD Decrypter in "IFO" mode...then you'll see some options to Demux to extra file. Choose that option for the .ac3 track and the .m2v file. You should then get one of each..along with other files which you can just delete. All you will be concerned with is the .ac3 file and the .m2v file.
Then you proceed with Maestro. As far as subs go...i'd just forget about them for this one particular movie....if you really want to know how to get subs..I will tell you...but I suggest you just leave them out and do what I mentioned above. Good LUck
