I've seen a few threads about this problem but not any suggestions that seem to work. I've got all the files needed. The ffmpegX folder is on my desktop with the extra files loose within that folder. When I run the ffmpegX engines installer I locate the files, click on install and get the authorisation window up. And there it stays. I quit out the first time as I could hear no HD activity and it staying busy for ages. I don't have a Admin account set up I use a user account as it's my home mac. Could this be the issue?
Any help appreciated, it looks ideal for what I want to do, I even thought about registering to see if that would fix it but since I haven't got through the first instalation yet, I've held off...

  2. It is possible that your problem lies in trying to install with only a user account. However it is impossible by OSX's design that you do not have at least one Admin account on your computer. Unless of course you did some voodoo with the terminal to allow this.

I would suggest that you create an admin account then use it to install the files. However, if it is in fact true that you do not have an admin account on your system, then it will be impossible for you to add one.

You could always install it as the root user account, but first you must enable it. To do this, you must also at least have access to an admin password.

If you wish to try to enable root, open your terminal and type: "sudo su" then hit "return" and wait for it to prompt you to enter a password. This is where you would normally type your admin password, however since you say you have none, your gonna want to try & enter your user password. Hit the "return" button and if all goes well it should print out a message saying something to the effect of "We hope you have been taught responsibilities of running your computer as root". next type "passwd root" it will then ask you to enter your new root user password. Do that, then press "return". It will then ask you to confirm your password, so just type it in again and press "return". You can now quit your terminal & go back to the ffmpeg installer. This time, when it asks you for your user name & password, use "root" as your name, your newly created password.

All in all, there's gonna come a time when you need your admin account. I don't see how you've managed to do without it at all. So if you were successful in creating a root account, you might wanna try logging into root though the gui login window & changing your user account to an admin account in the "Users" panel of the system prefs.

IMPORTANT: If you do start messing around as root, just be careful and don't delete or move anything just to be on the safe side.
Listen not to the Devil, for he mixes lies with the truth... and vermooth.

I have the same problem, except I am using the Admin account. When I try to run the engine installer, it asks for a password and then the installer never finishes.
