Is there a way to dvd rip and back up my game and play it on my play station 2 without a modchip? Can you burn it to a certain media type so the ps2 will allow it to play?

the process is complicated to rip games. it involves compressing movies, and sound, or just completly taking out sound FX and movies. then you have to remove DVD checks with a hex editor. then you have to re-build the cd. I find it a waste of time. just get a DVD burner and a modchip. there are ways to play games without modchips though. Im not sure if you can discuss stuff like this so send me a PM or email me at tandynor76@hotmail.com and I can tell you more on this subject.

No it is impossible for the PS2 to play any backed up games without a mod chip.

I do have a dvd burner.
And there should be a way to burn it in some format to trick the ps2 and not use a modchip. -

Sorry, didn't know there was such a thing out. Still you using some form of trick to bypass a part of the disc that cannot be copied correctly by any DVD burner on the market.

what is a boot disk?
Can i get the new magic swap disk v2 and the slide card combo and still play back up games just like a modchip....
Cause last time i tried soldering a modchip i almost destroyed my PS2. -
Yes you can use the swap magic disks with backups, but not every game you try will work (thats with ripped cdr), i dont know about the compatability with the DVD swap magic disk but i think its more compatible than the cdr swap magic.
If i were you and you were going to use this slide card method first make sure your ps2 isnt a V4 or it wont work, that version ps2 has a small cog in it and the slide card needs a version with a small pin in it that you push with the card.
The only alternative to that is to spend loads of time with a small screwdriver moving the cog till the tray unlocks so you can open it and swap the disks (and a chance you'll break it eventually), the other is to buy a flip top cover which will make a swap less than 3 seconds... id go for the latter... actually i did lol. -
Swap Magic dvd will play every DVD-R except Splinter Cell Xenosaga
There is another disk called the cdloader that you can use in conjunction to play these 2 games. (exception is that Splinter Cell still will not work on a version 7 with swap magic ever)
Some people say they have problems with tomb raider but I dont have the swap magic to test this out.
Swap Magic CD will "not" Play any game that has a higher TOC which means 99% of DVD-Rips (PS2 DVD games that are downsampled and editied to fit onto a CD-r) Ther are patches out there to reduce the size of the games to enable them to be played using the swap magic cd
Any game that original came on a cd can be played
(Also not that any game with a kalsito Pal/NTSC select screen can be played unless you use the boot loaded in conjunction with it)
It is a lot less hassle to get a chip but to each his own though
If you still want to use a boot disk wait on the zoneloader its supposed to not have the dvd disk problem or the ntsc/pal loader screen problem
If you need info on a good installer send me a PM -
sounds like swap disk method isn't all that great...
