playing vcds & media player

ok not sure if i am in the right place but here goes.
i formated my drive and reinstalled win98,
i want to play vcds on it which it did before, at least i think it did, i formated it but i keep getting this message

]mmsystem281 - this file could not be played
check filename or install driver that supports this type

can someone help me,
iwant to play vcds on it

dolphin,
1) If you have a VCD then you have a blablabla.DAT file, right?
2) Load WMP(Windows Media Player)=> Open file and choose "All files" and play your blablabla.dat.
