  1. Hi everyone,

I posted this post before on one of the other forums, my questions sounds an easy one for they who have done this before, even then no one replyed.

I have downloaded lot's of SVCD movies in .mpg format i want now burn them on DVD-r media, i know it will work well to watch them in my PCs DVD-rom BUT here comes my questions:

Will i be able to watch them in my stational DVD player? must i convert them first to be able to watch them in my stational player? If i must, what program do i need for that? (best results vs easy to use).

I want to fill my DVD-r with 2-4 movies, else i think it's waste of free space, how will that work if i must convert all of them first? if i don't need to convert them they are in different files so that shouldn't be any problem.

Can someone explain this to me in a easy way, i have tried to find some answers and i have seen some close but not exactly the way i ask these questions.

    Thank you all who answer!

  2. Did you check the SVCD to DVD guides?

demultiplex the mpg into a .mpv and .mpa using TMPGEnc

use IFOEdit to make .vob and .ifo files.

Use a DVD burning program to burn the VIDEO_TS dir created by IFOEdit.

This is assuming your DVD player will play NONCOMPLIENT DVDs. If it wont you have to convert the movie to a 352x480 resolution and convert the audio to 48kHz.

You can also use the TMPGEnc DVD Authoring Program.

Read the guides, they tell you what to do.
    Ejoc's CVD Page:
    DVDDecrypter -> DVD2AVI -> Vobsub -> AVISynth -> TMPGEnc -> VCDEasy

    DVD:
    DVDShrink -> RecordNow DX

    Capture:
VirualDub -> AVISynth -> QuEnc -> ffmpeggui -> TMPGEnc DVD Author

  3. Aight, here's what you gotta do....

It's not that complicated. You need to do some calculations and decision making beforehand though. First of all, determine how many DVDs you will be using for this, and the total length of all the movies put together. Convert this to seconds using common sense.

Then, multiply [(4.37*# of DVDs*1024)-(50*# of DVDs)]*(1024*8) to determine the total bit-capacity that you have. Divide this number by the total number of seconds of video that you have; this will yeild the number of kbits/second that you have for audio & video combined. Determine the audio bitrate you will be using (i.e.: 192kbps), and subtract this number from the quotient you just obtained from the lengthy expression.

Ok, the M$ Calc part is done! Now, go get the KDVD templates from kvcd.net for the TMPGEnc MPEG Encoder. Start up TMPGEnc, and load the template. Click browse by the Video source box and load up your first SVCD-style MPEG. Now, in the template Settings dialog box, click setting by the Rate control mode box. Change the quality to 100 and set the max bitrate to whatever you got after you did the last step in the last paragraph. Switch to the Audio tab, if you're going to use MPEG audio, otherwise click OK and get to the TMPGEnc main window and set the Stream Type to Video Only if you're not using TMPGEnc to encode the audio, otherwise, set it to System (Video+Audio). Make sure your video output is something that will later help you remember what the movie is! Hit Start and go do something else!

Ok, so maybe I lied.....it's kinda hard......but once you're used to it, it's like second nature. GOOD LUCK! Please msg me if you need help/clarification/to flame me if I done something wrong/to compliment me

  5. Hi again guys,

Ok now i have followed that SVCD to DVD guide, i downloaded all these 3 programs i needed (TMPGEnc, DVDPatcher and Ulead MovieFactory), i re-sampled the sound from 44.1 to 48 and i merged the movie+sound again exactly as they said in the guide.

Then i opened up DVDPatcher and made these adjustments as it told me to.

I went to Ulead MovieFactory and followed it as the guilde told me to, i got the files on my harddrive and a copy on a DVD-r, i first tried to start the movie in my InterVideo WinDVD4, i saw the menu and i press the first thumbernail (i called it CD1) then the harddrive started to work for a few sec and i got a window error msg in XP. I tried the CD on my friends computer as well with same results.

Ok i thought, i went to my stational DVD player, i put in the DVD and it start up and showed me the menu, so far so good.
I hit the first thumbernail = CD1, the picture freeze and it was blurred and nothing happend, i click then next on my control and CD2 started, that one worked, BUT:
First it was not 4:3 or 16:9 format, the picture was squared = it didn't fill out the picture to the edge of the screen as it should in widescreen, the picture looked shrinked.

Ok so is there anyone here who have any idea what's wrong, im 99.1% sure i haven't missed anything from the guide, i did as it told me to.

    Thanx to all who answer!

  6. MF may have tinkered with it. I personally cannot in good faith suggest that anyone use a Ulead product. Ever since I wasted a long distance call to have the "tech" tell me he was tired from a long night of partying it made me skeptical. Try clicking on the preference icon in the lower left side I think it looks like a paper with a checkmark inside and tick the "do not convert compliant files" or something like that might help.

  7. Thanx mmmbeer, i will have a look

Atm i try this over again, i will skipp the part with the DVD Patcher instead of making it 352 i will let it be in the 480 horizantal size as it is from start then it maybe fill out the screen to the edge

I have to try different approch to see what's happen etc...

  8. Here comes more info:

I did a test with 2 small (50MB) SVCD files, i just drag them into Ulead MovieFactory, it took some time to make them movie BUT the most important, this time i could open the DVD into InterVideo WinDVD4, no error msg etc in XP, the only bad thing was the movie was "lagging" a bit in every 3-4 sec interval.

So when i follow the SVCD to DVD guide i got error msg when trying to open the movie in InterVideo WinDVD4, if i skipp that and head for Ulead MF it goes well.

I have followed this SVCD to DVD guide https://www.videohelp.com/svcddvdr.htm

Can someone please tell me what's wrong?

    Thank you!

  9. I think i have solved it

After i followed that guide (SVCD to DVD, se above post), when using the Ulead MF write the files only to harddriv NOT to DVD, close the Ulead and use DVDPatcher again, change all .vob files back to 480 pixels Horizontal, but don't change video_ts.vob (when i did i couldn't watch it in Win XP).

Now when i tried the movie in InterVideo WinDVD4 it worked

I'm burning atm so i cross my fingers

Not to burst the bubble of learning which you're inflating... it's good to learn this stuff...

But you could TRY SVCD2DVDMPG. There's a forum here devoted to it, it makes hybrid SVCD-DVD disks that MIGHT work in your player (especially if your player plays SVCD's to begin with, but sometimes even if it doesn't). It's also fast... does a 3-SVCD movie in under an hour on my machine, since all it's doing is audio conversion and monkeying with headers.

  11. Thanx Gurum i will try that as well, it's good to know many programs then you can pick the one who suits you best

Btw the DVD i burned yesterday (se my latest post) WORKED , it was in NTCS and the TV i was watching the movie on couldn't switch to NTCS mode so the picture was a bit wrong hehe but im sure it will be good when im try it on my 2nd TV, that one can switch between PAL/NTCS

Atm i working on my 2nd DVD and now the movies is in PAL

The thing i like in Ulead MF is that it's simple to add menu and background sound etc...
