Friends,
I burnt a 10min home video with AC3 authored is not playing in standalone Pioneer DV-525. But works fine in my computer.
Video stops after every 1 sec. If i do fwd it plays for 1 sec and then stops again.

Here is what i am doing.
I captured DV Video through Firewire using Sony TRV-11. I ripped the audio out using virtualdub and encoded the video using TMPEnc with various encoding methods.
1.2Pass VBR : 4000 to 6000 kbps avg=5000kbps.
2.CBR = 6000kbps
3.CQ_VBR = Q=75 and 4000 to 6000 kbps
4.CQ=85 =4000 to 6000 kbps
I used BeSweet to decode the WAV to AC3(2ch) file. I used mostly the default setting in BeSweet.
I used bbmpeg to multiplex the video and audio. I used MyDVD to burn the DVD using Sony DRU500ULX recorder.
Not sure what i am doing wrong.
I also tried using DVDMaestro and same thing is happening.
Thanks in advance

Have you tried changing your media ?
-
Thanks for your reply.
Yeah, i tried using Sony DVD+RW and Meritline DVD-RW. I will try using a DVD+R or DVD-R and whether that works. It happens only with AC3 audio. If i have MPEG 1 layer 2 audio, it works fine. -
OK. I give up !!
I tried with other DVD+R and DVD-R. I have yet to try Maxell/Memorax...
The same DVD plays in Apex player without any problem. So is it something about the Media ?
Please help, i am stuck here !! I don't want to use LPCM because of huge size and i want to use AC3 because it as per the spec and widely used instead of MP2.
Appreciate any help !! -
I am pretty sure it is the ac3 file. If I remember correctly Besweet's encoder isn't right and encodes as little-endian and the dvd spec calls for big-endian (has to do with the byte order in case you don't know). Some dvd players will handle either, but I believe Pioneers have problems.

Well a program can be written such that it doesn't matter what kind of system it is on. Scenarist's AC3 encoder can encode both for instance. But Big Endian is NATIVE to Motorola and Little Endian is native to Intel an Alpha's I believe.

Thanks for the information.
I opened the AC3 file in Sonic SoftEncode program and the information it said is Non-Intel FrameType. I converted that to Intel FrameType and created the video with Spruce up. When i played that on the pioneer, i get no-audio but video was smooth.
So the AC3 file that i was using is Big Endian and is to the dvd spec right and i am getting the pause every second on pioneer. -

I just realized that I have an OLD version (1.4) of BeSweet installed. So this might be my audio problem with the Pioneer. You can get the latest version 1.5b18 here: http://dspguru.doom9.net/. Goto the BETA section for the download.
I have also been reading up on DVDLab and BeSweet here: http://www.mmbforums.com/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.cgi?s=5882036015c47f7d26e551f6e3b322...=ST;f=28;t=202. There is a very interesting discussion on the audio rate to use (224) and Pioneer players.
So tonight I will try my .AVI file again. -
joepic,
I think i found out what the problem is. As stated by wildcatfan it is the AC3 file which is corrupt or not recognized by Pioneer.
I tried with SoftEncode and created the AC3 and burnt with SpruceUp and everything works fine in Pioneer DV-525..
This problem has also been reported as a bug in BeSweet's project space !
Thanks -
What speed did you encode it at?
If it was not encoded at 224 2/0 you could have tried that -- I have been using BeSweet 224 encoded audio with no problems on a wide variety of standalones (including Pioneers) with zero problems. I'm not saying this is a cureall, but it sure seems to work for me.
But it sounds like you've found a solution that works, and that's the important thing."Like a knife, he cuts through life, like every day's his last" -- Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang -
Maduser & mkelley,
Last night I tried the latest version of BeSweet 1.5b18 and still had the lock up problem on the Pioneer.
With that said, there must be a configuration issue that mkelley and others are using that we are not. I know that BeSweet is used in SVCD2DVDMPG with succes on Pioneer's.
I will try Softencode tonight but sure would like to get this one fixed. -
mkelly,
BeSweet : I tried encoding it in both 384 and 224 2/0 and both didn't work on my pioneer.
But, i got it to work with 384 on softencode, so i am going to stick with that !
Thanks for all your help. -
Hello
I have a Pioneer 606D model DVD player. This is a very old model. Built like a tank though and still working great
Anyways my point is that this is an old player and has known issues with CD-R media (I can only get Fuji brand to work consistantly) as well as issues with most DVD-R discs. As I recall the 525 model is either the same generation or the very next. In other words it is also an old model.
So, in short, it might not so much be the way you are making your DVD-R discs as your player is just very picky about playing DVD-R discs.
My 606D does play some DVD-R discs but not all (even though the discs that do not work in it work on other, newer model DVD players).
On a side note that you might find interesting ... a friend of mine recently bought the new Panasonic S35 model DVD player at BEST BUY for only $99 and I saw the same model at the same price at a WAL-MART recently. This Panny player has played ANY and EVERY DVD-R disc we have thrown at it including discs made on a stand alone Panny DVD recorder as well as computer made DVD-R discs using various different software.
In other words ... might be time for a new player. I suggest you go to a store that has the Panny S35 and bring some of your DVD-R discs with you and see if it will play them. My guess is that it will unless you really are screwing up your DVD-R creation method.

P.S.
My Pioneer 606D will play back a DVD-R if it was a straight ISO rip and burn of a single layer original DVD using DVD Decrypter. Other methods of DVD-R backup have mostly failed to play on this player. Like I said it is very touchy about DVD-R discs. -

Thanks for your input.
This is NOT a media issue.
The Pioneer has 2 limitations:
1. Audio created with certain software. BeSweet & TMPGEnc (when using the DVD template) are two programs that MAY cause problems.
2. SVCD's converted to DVD's only produce 2/3 horziontal screen size unless the .MPG file contains 4:3 Pan & Scan information. Also your Pioneer must be set in this mode to correctly play.
My Pioneer plays -R/RW's and +R/RW's DVD's and VCD/SVCD CD-R's, no need to but a new oneWe need to resolve the 2 limitations so that when we convert .AVI's or SVCD's to DVD that play.

I started having this same issue last week with my Pioneer too (AC3 encoded with BeSweet). Lucky that so much informations are shared here.
I will try a different approach
1) encode AVI video only with TMPGEnc (no change here) to M2V
2) extract WAV from AVI
3) drop M2V and WAV into reelDVD (which converts WAV to AC3)
I will see what happen.
I am wondering why BeSweet has not fixed this problem. It's a very nice tool. Too bad, did not work for me.ktnwin - PATIENCE -
Hello
I found out through some tests that my Pioneer (model 606D) will play back a 5.1 AC-3 created with BeSweet but NOT a 2.0 AC-3 created with BeSweet.
However, I really don't know how to make a 5.1 AC-3 from a stereo source which is after all the main type of sound file we usually end up having as a source.
So right now I'm looking into ways on how to convert a 2 channel stereo sound file into a 5.1 AC-3 file. Found a thread about this in the AUDIO forum but haven't had a chance to test it out yet ... my computer is kinda SLOW right now as I'm running TMPGEnc since like 2 days ago hehehehe
Damn thing is due to finish tonight so probably tomorrow I'll test some method on making a 5.1 AC-3 from a stereo source.
In my opinion it is better to have a 5.1 AC-3 than MP2 sound ... even if the 5.1 isn't TRUE 5.1 which will be the case with a STEREO source but at least it is a Dolby Digital track instead of just a MP2 track.

Here are my updates - THIS WORKS.
I have to modify the approach in my previouos post as follows:
1) encode AVI video only with TMPGEnc (no change here) to M2V (I intentionally encode from 720x480 to 352x480 at 3000 kbps, in order to fit upto 3 hours on a single DVD-R)
2) encode AVI audio only with TMPGEnc to MP2 (at 48KHz - very important, I also chose the highest bitrate 384kps)
3) drop M2V and MP2 into reelDVD (which converts MP2 to AC3) . Need to configure for AC3 in the Project Settings tab.
My resulting DVD disc plays fine on the Pioneer 343, no audio sync issue.ktnwin - PATIENCE -
However, you are double compressing your audio (from mpeg audio to AC3) so you are also losing sound quality.
If it sounds alright to you I wouldn't let it bother me -- but be aware that it's not the best approach.

Hi mkelly,
I do realize that I am not getting the best AC3 with my approach. I am experimenting incrementally to go from: DVD freezing to DVD working.
Obviously the next step is to improve my DVD (audio wise).
I started with BeSweet but it causes my DVD to freeze.ktnwin - PATIENCE -

You will need the 5.1 surround pack also. I am not sure if this will solve our problem. -
Hi all, I was so relieved to find this thread running for I am having the same problem with xvid to dvdr conversions.
I am now using softencode and wanted to know what settings I and other 525 guys should be looking at?
Is intel option to be used?
A. -
Motorola byte order is the DVD specification, so you would definitely want to use that.
