Everytime i rip a DVD into my hardrive it automatically rips them as VOB files. Firstly, can i rip a DVD into MPEG, DIVX or AVI automatically to save me the trouble?
Secondly, 90% of the time most of the large VOB movie files (all like 1.1GB) have no audio accompanying them when i play them in PowerDVD while some do. For example when i ripped Cowboy Bebop the movie using smartripper (and even DVDshrink) only one of the five main movie VOB giles had audio...making their ripping pointless. Yet when i ripped the Tuxedo movie, four of the five files had sound, with only the one not.
Can someone tell how to rip files into VOB with sound guaranteed and/or how to rip them into another format with sound attached?
Im very new to all this and even after searching and reading countless days on this site i have no idea what to do properly.
Lastly, when i go to copy VOB files into programs such as Nero and Sonic it doesnt let me so i try to convert them into AVI and then DIVX files...but it takes at least 15 minutes to convert ONE VOB file into AVI and then another 15 minutes to make it DIVX using such programs as TMPGEnc!!! I cant see it really taking that long in practice! What am i doing wrong?
Assistance would be GREATLY appreciated! PLEASE HELP!

1) You'll have to rip the files first, then you can convert them into whatever(you already knew this, just repeating for completeness).
2) The audio is part of the VOB, they are muxed(multiplexed) together with the video, unless when you ripped them you excluded some audio track(doesn't sound like you did).
3) If you're ripping only sections of the movie, depending on the tool you're using, you may not be getting all the files that you need or they are not being re-created. I'm only familiar with DVDShrink and not the other tools you're using, but just ripping the VOB files by themselves can be an issue unto itself. There should be IFO, VOB and BUP files. If there are not, then they either needto be re-created or check the ripping tool to see if there is an option to rip/create those. As far as I can tell, DVDShrink either copies them or recreates them when it rips.
I don't kow how much help this has been, and a lot of stuff I guessed on because I can't see what your getting after the rip is complete.
If you're just trying to rip the files and backup onto another DVD, then converting the ripped files to another format then re-authoring doesn't really buy you anything, unless you plan to edit the video/audio in some way or add a new menu system. -
When you use smart ripper choose the movie tab on the main screen. Then under settings make sure your screen looks like the one here; https://www.videohelp.com/sefy/?id=ClassicalGuide.html. If that doesn't help try using DVD Decryptor to rip the movie.

Your right, i dont wish to do anything with these riups except make them fit onto a new DVD. Im not into authoring or changing the files in any way except to make them smaller. But even that looks impossible to me (as im sure it was to all new people).
I read a guide about making VOB files authored by using VOBEDIT and IFOEDIT but even that didnt help as my situation differed from that given in the guide. (I dont understand how he made the four files into one big file because when i tried to do it the IFOEDIT program just accepted my OK and then did nothing.)
Has no one got any idea as to a quick way to do what it is i wish to do, and a quicker way to convert out of VOB's without wating 60 years? -
And another thing annoying is how Nero wont say that yes, i have the proper IFO and BUP files when i go to burn the VOB's i (tried to) author using IFOEDIT. What am i to do? How do i properly do this IFO/BUP requirement thingy cause when i go to play the burnt DVD Nero is right, it doesnt work!
Can someone explain to me why the step detailing how to merge the VOB files just doesnt work in this guide: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/120021.php -

Thanx for the help poopy!
Just one last thing though...i have Nero and im wondering, does it ONLY allow you to use VOB files as i cant seem to get it to accept my MPEGs, DIVX's or AVI's.
Also, when i ask the encode program to make the convert of the AVI into MPEG 20% of the DVD size it makes it like 1gb (when my SONIC program adds it into MYDVD). Is there any way to make it stay at 20% (so has more quality) and actually end up taking 20% of my DVD when i add it into say SONIC? Or should i just make all the five files say 17% each and hope they fit?
Thanx to everyone who replies/replied! -

Hi ff9master if your just trying to make a back up copy of a DVD then the most easy way to do it is to use DVD X Copy XPRESS its so easy a 5 year old kid could use it. Just put the DVD you want to copy in your DVD rom a blank disk in your DVD RW press copy and your done. And no matter the size of the DVD it will always fit it all onto one blank disk. 2 things I don’t like about it is it will only copy the movie none of the special features. And once you have copyed it and you play it in your DVD player it comes up saying its been backed up with this software. If you can live with them 2 things then this is for you. as far as the quality gos next to the original its very very good. very hard to tell it’s a copy
Ps if you want to copy any dvd and all its special features. i would have to say the best software for doing it is CloneDVD. its fast easy and very very good quality next to the original. now CloneDVD on its own will not copy protected dvds. But wait get a little program called AnyDVD with that and CloneDVD you can copy any dvd what so ever
DO NOT USE ANY OF THE SOFTWARE ABOVE IN ANYWAY TO MAKE ILLEGAL COPIES IT IS PROHIBITED AND STRICTLY FORBIDDEN
