  1. When i first bought my WinTV GO PCI Capture card i was pretty astonished of what a $80 card can produce... only lack of quality is that its resolution is no more then 640*480...

    Heres my problem
    ============

Im running XP, and after reformatting my pc, I decided to install my capture driversd again and go for once more a lil capture off my Satellite receiver.... the only prob I have now is that it wont output more then 320*240 in resolution as to when as before it was 640*480... Gives me an error: Error 418: Unsupported video format.. and yes when I used to cap before I was using XP aswell.... please let me know whats the prob?

Heres some stuff I think it might be but please help me out:
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
-My Vdub version doesnt support that resolution
-My WDM drivers doesnt support that resolution
-VDub itself needs to be reinstalled
    -I installed my drivers/Vdub incorrectly
-And/Or Im missing an option in VDub that i must have forgotton..

Please let me know your ideas thnxs

Ok I have a WINTV Go and know exactly what you are describing... There is good news and bad news.

The WDM driver will not capture over 320x240. The Wrapper that is used for ATI *MIGHT* work, but you will not know untill you try.... That's the bad news.

Now for the good news. The new WDM drivers now fully support the full gamut of resolutions all the way up to 720x480 ( NTSC ). I have switched to VirtualVCR with excellent results. With VDub I would drop 15-30frames/hour, now I drop 0 over multiple hours.

If that does not satisfy you you are still in luck...

The btwincap drivers ( at sourceforge.net ) provide both WDM and VFW interfaces at full resolution, but don't work quite right with the tuner ( no sound ). But because you don't need the tuner ( external satellite box ) you could go with that option and VDub would work.

  3. Thnxs for the help, but the problem is the WDM drivers i downloaded were the ones off the site and Im pretty sure those were the new WDM drivers.. Unless you can provide me a link for them, that would be great thnxs

    Yep those are the ones....

Personally I would recommend VirtualVCR.... with timing and profile support it really is an excellent capture program that works well with the latest Hauppauge WDM drivers. But if you want solid VFW support go with the btwincap drivers.

  5. Ok well something really wierd is happening, I used that link I sent you to install the drivers and while I was in the process of installing them, I followed the instructions on whic card I got and so forthand at the end it turned out to be that my vdub detected a Conextar or something like that of a capture card... Yes I was mad but not fully to the extent I was going to break something.....hehe well to make a long story short, I used the WDM drivers from my previous way (from the hauppauge site) and I used VirtualVCR as ur source and yes it does work at 720*480...

Now heres the 2 things that are weird and maybe you know why..
Since I got VirtualVCR to work, I would imagine VDub would work with it aswell, well it didnt, it stated another video device was in use and that even happened after I restarted just to avoid the probel of it being VirtualVCR when I started it in the first place.. thats 1 thing thats weird....and the second thing that was a lil strange was the fact that when I installed the new WDM drivers from the hauppauge site, it was an .EXE of course and I installed it, then when I restarted like I was asked to It told me it detected the WDM Drivers and the AUX drivers. I thought I installed the drivers in the first place by downloading the EXE WDM drivers but I guess it didnt do that... SO basically I just chose the location that the .EXE installed then to (C:\Windows\System\ and now it works... But VDub still has that problem...

P.S. Im on a 2.4 and I drop frames most of the times, like for instance I would drop major frames when I would hear my RAM make a hardcore noise and then it would drop like 30- 70 frames all one shot.. And my ram is DDR... I dunno plus I even reformatted like 2 weeks ago...Its always been a issue for me but I dont want to bore you to death, thnxs for listening and if you have any suggesitons I would love to hear them ... OK thnxs ciao

Your ram does not make noise, but your hard drive would. Sounds like you do NOT have a dedicated capture drive. The only way to improve this is to get a dedicated capture drive. You should also go and turn off any unused services that might be running in the background. You can improve capture performace by reducing the data rate as well by increacing compression and or reducing capture size.

Oh the btwincap driver WILL detect a context ( sp? ) chip because that's what the WinTV card actually uses. Whenever you switch drivers on reboot it will re-detect new devices/drivers like you have seen this is completly normal.

But didnt you say you got the same cap card as me? I got the PCI 878 chipset Hauppauge WinTV Go.... And yes when i cap all my stuff on the background is gone and no programs are opened..... and I dunno how to do that data rate thingy though,

we do have the same card..

I have dedicated capture *HARD DRIVE* I drop 0 frames because there are no other programs using that drive.

Just because you don't have any *PROGRAMS* running does not mean there are no *SERVICES* running. Under WinNT/2k/XP many things run as services that can be modified through the standard administrative tools.

    Datarate...

What codec are you using for captures?

  11. One Question I got for ya:

I got my hard drive which is split into 2 drives, a C:\ which is where my OS is and my D:\ where I got VDub installed and where I save my saved captured videos on... Of course it doesnt make a diff because theyr both on one HDD.... So here my question...

I got my 2 pcs networked... so Can I run Vdub off my D:\ and capture onto my other PC's HDD which is networked? or is that going to be a problem? See you might say yes since im capping to a HDD which also has OS running but it isnt on the HDD im capping off? does this confuse please let me know what I can do. thnxs

It will probably be a problem... just sounds like a hedache waiting to happen.

To lower the droped frames reduce the datarate in PIC by lowering the quality setting or reducing the captured video size.

  13. Well if I buy another HDD then that will be OK? just let me know and ill go buy one right now hehe... im really tired of dropping 158 frames in 5 minutes when Im on a 2.4 with 512 DDR Ram, its just crazy, thnxs

I won't say for positive... some other factors...

Do you have a free UDMA66/100/133 connector on your motherboard that you can use? Are you POSITIVE that you have DMA mode working on all of your HD's? Are you sure your computer is free from viruses, spyware, adware? ( download spybot and adaware and run them ).

When you can answer yes to these questions then a new HD will probably help. Make sure to get the 7200 RPM drives and make sure to compare prices/speed/cache size/warantee length.

    Good luck.

  15. Well the DMA mode option I didnt check, but i wouldnt care as to you already stated its not a dedicated drive.. and as for the spyware, well I reformatted like last week so I am not too concerned about that.. and bout my connector slot? well can my new HDD be as a slave and be connected to the an IDE slot from another connection? or does it have to separate away from everything else?

P.S> I need to check on that free UDMA66/100/133 connector...

If it's slave it's second fiddle to the main drive. As long as it's a primary drive on another chain ( not your system drive ).

Oh the DMA thing is to make sure your IDE drivers are 100% ( and it also helps your system ).

    HDD
    CD-ROM

The thing to do is put..

HD C on IDE 0 as master
DVD burner on IDE 0 as slave

HD D on IDE 1 as master
DVD ROM on IDE 1 as slave

This is hard because of short cables but there's lots of advantages

You can arrange to have all high bandwidth operations operate
with source and destination drives on different IDE controllers
so that data can simultaneously be read and written
    Lots of stuff goes faster.

    Cheers
