  1. I just had a very informative talk with Pioneer tech support (USA) and why they are not yet supporting the firmware 1.15 for the 107D burner. While they were not sure he led me to believe that there might be some stability problems with region 1 drives and that their tech people were holding off to see what they could do before they release the new version for USA.

I asked him to try to convince them to post what they find when they finally release it, especially concerning what to do if you have the 1.15 from AU or elsewhere. He did agree that this delay had not happened before in his memory.

Any additional info from anyone else would be great. I have been using the 1.15 since its release and so far have had no difficulties.
Still a few bugs in the system...

  2. Are the new drives now coming with v1.15 Firmware or are you refering to the Firmware update?

I'm sure i just downloaded that update yesterday from Pioneer USA, i'm glad i didn't upgrade yet.

    Whatever happened to QA?
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

I am refering to the update available from Pioneer Australia. Pioneer USA says their most current is 1.13.

  5. I tried the Australian version 1.15 and it's worked fine...

  6. Then it must be a region issue.

  7. Region issue? Sounds more like a tech support person who doesn't know what they're talking about. Firmwares from any of the Pioneer sites are identical.

I thought so as well. The tech person led me to believe tthat this was a departure from what ususally happened. Either something new is going on or he was wrong.

Now I see we are up to 1.16 and USA seems to have skipped 1.15. I guess he was wrong in more ways than one.

I agree, but just because a Firmware works OK in one region, it doesn't mean it works in another.

Er, and why shouldn't they? Region protection is just a bunch of bits flipped here and there, and there is no reason whatsoever that a different reason would cause problems with the drive. The tech support guy was just BSing.

Things don't always work the way they are supposed to.

Besides, tech-guys don't lie. (well, at least thats what they told me)

Trust me on this one. The region can't affect drive performance in any way unless something in the firmware was very screwed up (which isn't the case).

I'm not saying that he's lying. But tech support people are usually underlings who don't always receive correct information. It was probably an honest mistake.

    I'll accept that answer.

Hey, i was just kidding anyway.

I imagine a lot of what you hear on Friday at 3:30 P.M. is not accurate.

Is this latest official Firmware better than the one found at firmware-flash.com and http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org/?

    I notice that firmware-flash has 1.16.

Yes. You may notice that the 1.16 f/w found at rpc1.org (aka, firmware-flash.com) is just a link to an official Pioneer download.

on another note, I have a pioneer dvr-107d as well and I have yet to update any firmware yet. Should I and to what version? I have not experienced any bad burns or anything from the burner and it's fine so should I stay put or upgrade?

  18. The official line from Pioneer is to stay with what you have until you have a "problem". I have had no trouble with any of the numerous upgrades nor was I experiencing any trouble with any of the firmware versions. I like to stay current and as I understand it from the firmware revision history, most of the upgrades are to deal with additional media and to correct problems with current media. Eventually you will probably need to change since sooner or later you will have to deal with some new mwdia. I have seen no reason to not upgrade unless you plan to use one of the hacked firmwares. As always, do so at your own risk.

Oddly enough the firmware doesn't work with my drive. It says there is a disc in the drive when there isn't.
