i'm interested in buying the Pioneer DVR-A05 dvd writer. however, i've read that although it writes up to 4x it is not recommended to write at that speed. 2x seems to work fine.
why is writing at 4x not stable? should i stick to the 2x media always?
thanks.

Where exactly have you "read" that 4X is not stable? I've burned over 100 4X disks with absolutely no problem. There are some people who might think that a faster speed is not safe (I have no idea why), but it's absolutely not true.

i read that some people were having a problem burning at that speed that's all.
what media would be best for the Pioneer A05? TDK?

I've used Ritek 4X, TDK 4X, Verbatim 4X all with no problems at all

robcg,
To your 1st question: I also use the A05/105 pinoeer drive with 4x princo's and have 100% sucess rate currently at about 30 discs. It depends on your computer configuration a bit as well, since at 4x you are constantly throughputting a bit more than 5Mbytes/s. If you got an up to date PC and do not have your HD and DVD-RW on the same string you should be OK.
Second question: DVD-RW of course are more expensive, since the dye is made of a composition that can be restored. If you are backing up data, it makes sense to use a DVD-RW. If you burn movies there is not much sense in burning them on DVD-RW media. Most new standalone DVD players play both DVD+-R and DVD+-RW, older models may not work with the DVD+-RW.Listen to me now and believe me later
