  1. I have these brands in DVD/CD's

    Memorex
    Sony
    Maxell
    Verbatim

After cheacking with DVD Info and Nero Info tool none of them are made by the name on the label. Is this the way all media is made?

For example has anyone ever bought a sony DVD and check with DVD Info and it says Mfr Id sony?

  2. For a start, Memorex has NEVER made their own CD-R's/DVD's. They simply whack their logo on the cheapest media they can get their hands on. Could be anything: CMC, RiTEK, Prodisc...etc.

Verbatim (if the packaging and discs say "DatalifePlus") are made by Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC). If you bought Datalife or Valulife, you're buying low quality, usually CMC, but sometimes you'll get Taiyo Yuden in the Pastel discs.

Sony CD-R's in the past have been made by Taiyo Yuden, Ricoh, Mitsui, Mitsubishi, and Lead Data (using Sony's ATIP). Sony DVD-R's are made at an Austrian factory with the SONY manufacturer ID.

I'm pretty sure that Maxell has always made their own DVD-R's. I have seen Maxell CD-R's made by RiTEK, Acer, and Hitachi Maxell.
