Hello everyone, I am currently trying to capture my VHS tapes to DVD using my Leadtek Winfast 2000 XP TV tuner card. First off, I am not able to use VirtualDub for captures above 320x240. If I use the Leadtek Winfast software to capture at 720x480 using the Huffyuv codec, I get audio sync problems after applying the crop filter in Virtualdub. Also, if I use third party PVR software (Cyber link PowerPC) to record Cable TV Channels, on some channels (usually above channel 66) the right channel has the wrong audio channel and the left channel has the correct audio.

What I am looking for is a TV tuner capture card that will allow me to use VirtualDub directly to capture at high resolutions without audio sync problems. The reason why I want it to work with VirtualDub is that I want to try to apply filters to the VHS captures in order to achieve the best possible results. Also, I need a capture card that will work with third party PVR software correctly. In other words, I want the best card that will give me the best VHS to DVD capture. Also, I need it to be affordable (below $100 US).

Thanks in advance for your help

Look into the ATI ALL IN WONDER RADEON cards. The capture software it comes with has video filters that are well more advanced than the ones in VirtualDub. ATI MMC 8.x all come with VideoSoap.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

Wetmonkey, I could not find that Asus card on NewEgg website.

I also had another question: If I am capturing from a VHS source is the max resolution I can capture at 320x240, since this is the resolution of the source material?? I should not be able to capture a VHS source as a .avi file at 740x480 using virtualDub.........right (since the source is only 320x240)????

I capture at the resolution my output is going to be - since most of my captures end up on dvd-r, I capture at 720x480.

I can't capture with Virtualdub with my card, so I capture with iuVCR instead, although I was able to capture at 720x480 with VirtualVCR as well (freeware).

And although my esteemed colleague Txpharoah would argue that 352x480 (1/2 D1) is plenty for VHS, in my tests it was significantly softer and less detailed than the same source captured at full D1 resolution.

Thanks, everyone for your replies. After work today, I purchased the AverTV Studio tuner card at Compusa. They had a limited selection. So, I believe I picked the best one. I am testing it out as I am writing this. This card does seem to work correctly with PowerVCR. The only thing I have noticed with this card is a humming noise coming from the speakers when I am not using the tuner card. Does anyone know why this happens??? I have to turn the speaker volume down in order to have some quiet. Well, I am going to install the drivers from this site http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/, and test out capturing VHS with VirtualDub next. Hopefully it will work better then the Leadtek Winfast 2000 XP.

    Thanks again.
