Everyone talks about it as if it's important, I'm curious how many are actually stuck with a DVD writer that is dead from firmware updates especially, but also other reasons? I do the microsurgery type electronics needed to redo the flash etc, but really I don't see that there are enough of these actually out there to even ask. At any rate if someone's got one or more, I'd be happy to either buy the drives or attempt repair for you.
(Attempt because it can always be something else that killed the drive, and even just a bad firmware update can also kill the drive on power up etc. I know I can pull and reprogram or replace the flash since that's detailed but straight forward, but it still may not fix a drive. Should fix most bad firmware updates though..)
