Optodisc 4X DVD-R GOLD vs SILVER

I'm trying to decide which DVD-R's I should use and have finally narrowed my pick to either optodiscs or riteks. There are two different versions of the optodiscs, though. Has anyone tried both the silver and gold versions of the 4x optodisc dvd-rs? I'd like to know the difference between the two and why the gold's are more usually more expensive (of the sites that i've searched). I've read many exceptional reviews for the gold's but haven't heard much of anything for the silver's. Also, are either of the 4x optodiscs better than ritek 4x g04?

I don't have any experience with the silver Opto's, but have burned both Ritek and the gold Opto's.

I've burned through 100 Ritek 4X with absolutely no problems. Everyone I give copies of my home movies to are able to play them. I don't know about the life expectancy, as I've only been doing it for a few months now.

I got 50 of the gold 4X Opto's from Meritline recently. I've burned through 20 of them and have had no problems. So far, everyone I've given Riteks to has been able to play the Opto's also. They seem to have a harder plastic on the purple side and are less likely to scratch. They also have the gold label on the top that makes labeling with a sharpie pretty easy.

All in all, I like both media about the same so far. If the Opto's prove as reliable as the Ritek, I may favor Opto more due to the harder plastic bottoms. Some of the people I give discs to aren't careful with them...

By silver do you mean the unbranded ones? I have a friend who's gone through about 20 of them so far and had no problems. Actually My DVR-A04 that for some reason no longer burns Ritek properly will even burn them fine.

yes, unbranded silvers in a spindle, no label. gold's have the label though.

Same media, same write strategy and OPC.

One is gold the other is silver.

I have a 50 pack of the Gold and a 100 pack of the silver.
