im going to format one of my harddrives so i can use it as a capture drive. i was wondering what allocation unit size would be best for capturing. does it matter? im going to format to NTFS. i would think that the allocation unit size should be bigger so the hardrive doesnt need to change units as often... i mean im only going to store two or three files on there at a time at the most because they are going to be huge files. if anyone could tell me what i should use i would really appreciate it.
also, i was wondering if having my secondary harddrive on the same ide cable as my master would cause dropped frames.
thanks

The bigger the allocation unit, the faster the drive. BUT, it wastes more space.

so your saying if i want to use it as a capture drive it is better to have bigger allocation units?

Under XP you can only get access to the larger allocation sizes though the command line format command.
For a capture drive use one of the largest options you can get, but don't forget to de-frag or reformat on occasion to keep the transfer rate up. -
