I've been using Vegas Video for my video editing and it does almost everything that I need, except chroma keying. What editors out there support this besides Premier?

Is there an avisynth filter for this?

    Thanks for any help.

    Edit studio from pure motion.

Are you sure Vegas does not support chroma key? I don't use it so I can't help figure it out. Just that chroma key is such a lowly effect now adays, that I seems like most everyone would offer it.

  5. Depends on how good you want your keying to look.

If you aren't critical (that is, you don't mind edge problems and/or won't be doing any transparency and/or wispy hair type stuff) just about any keyer will do. If you need something better, though, you can't beat doing this stuff in After Effects with a plugin like Primatte.

While somewhat expensive, it's probably half the cost (or less) of any other professional keying solution, and just as good as anything the pros use. Indeed, a lot of pros do use it (we use Ultimatte, a more expensive product, but it doesn't do any better job and takes longer -- I'm going to build our next keying solution around Primatte when I Get Around To It). If you don't own AE the whole package (with Primatte) will cost you around $1K, but you will never suffer any limitations.

Some folks also like the Production Bundle of After Effects, which does come with a high end keyer, but while we have it I find it a royal PITA. Indeed, it's one reason I'm considering getting Primatte just for fun.

in the Vegas manual, check page 200 - instructions on chroma keying.

what version of Vegas are you using? I'm using VV4 - I don't know if earlier versions had this.

Thanks for all your help. I'm not at home so I can't look at the version of Vegas that I have, but the documentation says that it is not supported, at least in the version that I have.

    Maybe time to upgrade.

might be... I tried Vegas 3, and it was good, but it didn't blow me away like version 4 does.
