I got one of those bad discs with my DRU-500AX. It had spots all over the writable side. I took the disc back to Bestbuy where I got the drive and the manager gave me two discs of another brand to replace it.

It was really frustrating because it was the only disc I had for the first 24 hours and I couldn't burn anything.

Only 18,000 disks? This is less than an hour's worth of disk production. Why didn't they catch this during the inspection process?

I suspect that the problem is much higher than what they are admitting to.

well, if those 18,000 discs were shipped one each with 18,000 burners, that creates a large problem. if the very first disc i burned with a brand new writer didn't work, i would not be reccomending the drive to other people, and would possibly try and return the drive. ok, -i- wouldn't, and as it turns out the first disc i burned on my A04 was duff (my fault) but i'm sure other people would.
