  1. I am very new to capturing and authoring. Here is what I have done so far.

I captured video from my camcorder using an AverDVD EZMaker card, with Ulead Movie Factory 2 software. Then I used TMPGEnc software to encode to MPEG-2 format. Then I authored the DVD onto my hard drive first to make sure the ISO image file would play on my PC first. NO problem, video looked great. Then I burned the ISO image to CD-R using Nero. Put disc into my Toshiba SD-4800 player, and got a Disc Error message. Is this a compatibility issue with my player. I thought that as long as it was in DVD format, it didn't matter that it was on a CD-R.

    Please help.

    Thanks,
    Gene

no this wont work i think those are what you would call a mini-dvd. which is very very incompatible. ive tried it to on my apex and video works but no audio.but it doesnt work like a dvd it looks through the file through the explorer. like when you insert a data disk with music videos.

  3. The problem is that 1x CD = 150kb/s while 1x DVD = 1350kb/s. CD and DVD are NOT the same thing, that's why you can not burn a DVDR disc with a CDRW drive. Different lasers, different formats. Most standalones have 1x-2x DVD drives (after all you only need 1x drive to play the DVD).

Take a look to the left under 'DVD Players' for some standalones that might support cDVD/miniDVD. Your best bet is to stick to xVCD thou (or but a DVDR drive).

  4. The main problem is actually firmware. The vast majority of DVD players when they detect a CD type medium, will no longer expect to see and load the software for a DVD.

miniDVDs or cDVD work well on the PC platform but you are very very unlikely to find a standalone DVD player that will play it properly/at all.
