    Hi there,

I use TMPGEnc to encode VCDs to watch on a TV via a standalone Player.

I capture in PAL 352 x288 and try to keep that resolution. I chose 'center (keep acpect ratio)' in TMPGEnc's advanced options, because - from my understanding - with this setting it will place the source picture in the middle of the encoded picture without changing the source's resolution, therefore keeping maximum sharpness. BUT: With this setting my TV does display a black border at the right hand side of the screen.

    Same with DVD rips.

Why exactly could a capture or rip in 352x288 , encoded to 352x288, not be displayed full (width) screen on a TV?

I have to choose 'full screen (keep aspect ratio)' to get rid of that border. TMPGEnc's preview window does still show (smaller now than with 'center') borders at the left and right margin, but the TV does not.

Does TMPGEnc change the source's resolution to strech the picture to full screen? If so, there should be a considerable loss off quality/sharpness if any frame is just slightly (< 5 percent) enlarged.

    Thanks,
    Lowlander
