    I have an AMD 2500+ on an Asus A7N8X with 1Gb PC2700 DDR, 120Gb WD 8ns, ATI AiW 9000 Pro AGP, & a Pioneer A05 4x DVD-R/-RW writer.

I am running Win2k and I've installed all the updates.

Everything seems to work fine with the vid card until I try to capture for an extended period of time. I can grab 5 or 10 mins easy, but after the TV program has been capturing for a little more than 10 minutes, my system just reboots with no warning. I even changed the quality of the capture down to mpeg-1 at a low res but it still reboots. Also, I don't know if this would matter, but I've been using my TV as the monitor while experimenting. Eventually, I'll put the computer back into the office and run coax to it.

I emailed ATI, but they're not helping a lot. I don't know which settings to try messing with. The HD is set to DMA and is working there. Also, the vid card runs on IRQ 19 all by itself - not sharing.

My case was supposed to have a 400 watt power supply, but it's actually a 350 w. Could that do it?

Thanks guys. I'm new to capture, and this site rules.

Okay, so even if no one here has had this exact problem, can anyone recommend a possible solution? How can I beef up the RAM that's used for the capture process?

That problem was a known issue with certain MMC/driver/hardware combinations. Get the newest ones from ATI.com.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

Is your harddrive formated to FAT 32 or NTFS?

  7. If after you get the newest drivers and such you still have the rebooting problem, the issue might be a device conflict.

If you have a lot of cards in your machine or other peripherals attached, you might want to consider taking some of the unnecessary ones out or deisconnecting other peripherals. These eat up IRQs and if certain IRQs are shared among 2 devices either your machine will reboot or it will lock up.

I had that happen once with a NIC and sound card. Very interesting.
