Does anybody know what kind of chip/processor XBOX and PS2 use? Or do they use one at all? Just curious...

XBox uses a modified PIII 733.

The PS2 uses custom made chips, one is dubbed the emotion engine.

If you go to either official web page, the specs are listed there.

Thanks disturbed1...I was just at those sites. I'm impressed to know that my XBOX outperforms the PS2 though. In graphics processing and in CPU speed.

Well, you have to remember that the PS2 is the oldest "nex-gen" console of them all. I think the PS2 may be a good year older giving it a distinct disadvantage.

Maybe they will up its power in the PSX, but I doubt it. Sony will probably wait til the PS3. After all, the PSX is just a multi-purpose PS2.

  7. From memory both XBOX and PS2 use the Intel Pentium III as the main CPU.

The "Emotion Engine" of the PS2 refers to the graphics card / GPU.

PS2 uses a Risc processor, just like the PS1 did. So it can maintain backwards compatibility. So that rules out a PIII

Here is some good info on the PS2 hardware.
    http://www.arstechnica.com/reviews/1q00/playstation2/ee-1.html
    http://www.arstechnica.com/cpu/2q00/ps2/ps2vspc-1.html

Not its stats as much of a tech breakdown of how it does those things it does.

Seems like you're right... I wonder why I thought differently...
