  1. Alright, I've isntalled TMPGEnc Plus and the Nimo Codec pac. Althoug I can reincode mpeg-1 files, when i copy the dat file form a vcd to the hard drive, I cannot rencode it. I do not have the same problem on my computer with Windows ME. I've renamed the file extension on the vcd mpeg file, but tmpgenc still does not open it saying cannot open or unsupported file type. Can anyone please help here? Also, a little off topic is an issue involving nero - for some reason I cannot do a direct CD copy from my DVD-ROM (16X/48X CD-ROM) to my CD-RW (40X12X48X) using nero Express. Any tips (especially on the tmpgenc issue it's really annoying and I'v never had the problem with my computer that has Win Me.

To be able to read DAT files, I find that in the 'Environment' -> 'VFAPI plug-in' settings for TMPGEnc the 'Microsoft MPEG 1 Decoder' needs to be enabled.

Enabling just means that the 'Microsoft MPEG 1 Decoder' entry in the list must be ticked.

I'll do some more checking and let you know if there is anything else you can try.

Well, further testing has shown that only the presence of the 'Microsoft MPEG 1 Decoder' enabled in the VFAPI settings will let TMPGenc read DAT files.

I did notice that this decoder is only included in the later versions of TMPGenc so first check that you can see it in the VFAPI list - if its not there then try installing the latest TMPGenc version.
