    G'Day,

I've ripped a VIDEO_TS folder that I extracted from a DVD using DVDBackup 1.3 The original TS plays beautifully with apple DVD player. When I encoded it to .avi using ffmpegX {DivX libavc PAL quicksettings} there seems to be no sound. Quicktime gives no sound, although the picture is great so when I looked through the info using ffmpegX this was the result:

    VIDEO: [XVID] 640x352 24bpp 25.00 fps 1009.7 kbps (123.3 kbyte/s) audiocodec: framecopy (format=55 chans=2 rate=48000 bits=0 bps=16000 sample=1)

    What's the deal?

    =) B

  2. Try first to use ffmpegX "play" button or Mplayer OSX to check if there is sound. You should know that Quicktime is unable to play mp3 audio in avi files. This is a global AVI issue fully solved only by players like Mplayer OSX and VLC.

I had the same issue. I didn't know about the whole MP3 issue with Quicktime. The video I thought was silent works just fine in M Player. I wish this was pointed out as I spent ages trying to work out where the sound had gone. Top tip.

  4. By the way, the current DivX codec from divx.com fixed the infamous Quicktime avi/mp3 problem.
