G'Day,
I've ripped a VIDEO_TS folder that I extracted from a DVD using DVDBackup 1.3 The original TS plays beautifully with apple DVD player. When I encoded it to .avi using ffmpegX {DivX libavc PAL quicksettings} there seems to be no sound. Quicktime gives no sound, although the picture is greatso when I looked through the info using ffmpegX this was the result:
VIDEO: [XVID] 640x352 24bpp 25.00 fps 1009.7 kbps (123.3 kbyte/s) audiocodec: framecopy (format=55 chans=2 rate=48000 bits=0 bps=16000 sample=1)
What's the deal?
=) B

I had the same issue. I didn't know about the whole MP3 issue with Quicktime. The video I thought was silent works just fine in M Player. I wish this was pointed out as I spent ages trying to work out where the sound had gone. Top tip.
