  1. I have a Sony DRU-500AX and have had problems with Memorex CD-RW's. Which CD-RW's do you like the best for this drive? If there are any I haven't included in the list, please let me know, along with where to get them (cheaply, if possible). Also, any other suggestions would be appreciated mucho.

    Thanks...

  2. Same story here, out of the 10 pack Memorex CD-RW I bought (700MB write 1x up to 4x), 2 were defective. The others worked ok but I still don't trust them. For that reaason, I only use them like scratch disks, anything important is not put on them.

I can't remember the exact error I got, but it had something with not being able to find something, then it just timed out after I ctrl+alt+del.

I've also had strange intermittent problems with Maxwell CD-R's. I mentioned this sometime ago in another thread and I suspected that these units have some defects in them when it writes to certain CD R/RW media, but no one has even observed this until now. Good poll, I hope more people vote and can provide some more insight.

For dvd's though, its been great. I only use DVD-R and not one coaster. One time, I decided to cancel while the DVD-R was only half way thru finishing cause I did not like the way I authored the menu. After it stopped, I thought it would be a cool experiment to see if my dvd player can read it, and surprise, NO problem. The menu, the navigation, all still worked, even playing the movie until no more data, and even then, the player did not freeze, it just kicked me out to the player's own splash screen. Pretty cool, I wonder if the competing format can do this as well?

  3. Thanks for the reply. I haven't had any probs with DVD-RW's either - even the Memorex, but I have a fair amount of the Memorex CD-RW's left, so I'd like to use them up. However, if they're not going to work, then there's no use continuing to mess with them. I'd like to use CD-RW's for people who don't have DVD drives, and they're cheaper....

  6. I have tried several brands, but Sony are the most reliable for me. I also use Samsung, because those are 8x (or 10x I can't remember). TDK seems to work well with the Sony DRU500A, but not with my Ricoh CD-RW, so I don't use them.
