  1. What is this? I bought unbranded Princo 4x dvd-r and CopyToDVD only burns them at 1x. I have 15 copies to make so I am royally screwed.

15 hours as opposed to <4 hours

Check the media code with DVDinfo.
Be sure it has BOTH a 4x media ID and a 4x strategy.
If it does, then your program does not properly use the drive/media.
If it doesn't, I'd call the media seller and complain.

Try a burn with the new Nero or RecordNow. If the disc is 4x, you can bet it'll burn 4x.

I've burned thousands of Princos with no problems. The new 4x media is the best of their products, as these new discs are error-free to date on the 500 I've had in about 2 months time, a vast improvement over the occasional hit-and-miss errors of the past when writing past 4GB. I'd HIGHLY doubt a media problem. I think it's the freeware program.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

  3. Its Princo, what do you expect. You are probably lucky since you couldn't burn them at 4x. Just read the DVD Media section and you can see you aren't the only one that can't get them to burn at 4x. Also a bunch of people that reported burning them at 4x causes errors. I'd suggest you switch over to another 4x disc, like DupEZ or Ritek.

  4. Do I run DVDInfo on a blank dvd-r, in the Pioneer burner?

Call the company in question, and tell them they have 48 hours to replace the discs they sent. It is their responsibility to both retrive the current items, and to send new ones. All companies should have Fedex or UPS accounts they can give you in order to return the discs at no cost to you.

You should not be penalized for the few that are missing from your use (unless it is a large number and makes up a unnacceptable percentage of the total number of discs). You should try to return as many of them as possible, including frisbies.

If they refuse to cooperate, file a charge-back with your credit card. You are the victim of one form of bait-n-switch.

    Where did you buy them?

  8. The one that I got from rima has 4x on everything except media ID which says "unknown". The media type is "2.2" in my case.

Tried 2x with DRU500A and the burn came out perfect. I will not try 4x because I'd rather wait another 15 mins for a quality burn.

    I got them from hypermicro.com

They have many blank dvd-r, and they're in Illinois, instead of California. I get the shipping in 2 days time. I also get higher $ apple dvd-r 4x from jandr.com in NY, but I don't use them for big jobs.

  10. I'd suggest you give Hypermicro a call and try to get a full refund for the discs. At the very least let them give you store credit so you can buy another brand of discs. Princo is probably the worst -R disc. Read the experiences of the DVD Media section. Princo's discs have problems ranging from pixelation to degradtion.

  11. I use Verbatim Datalife plus DVD-R.
    I use Pioneer A04, and A05

I use the PS2 to test the DVD's before I send the DVD's out to my clients.

I have found that my PS2 will not play DVD-R's sometimes, when I have burned them at 2X. They always work at 1X.

So I burn at 1X, to avoid getting DVD's returned from my customers.

    Get a complete media ID.

    If it's
    00 6A 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 52 00 02 87 0E 13 .L...@....R.....
    66 78 80 00 03 50 52 49 4E 43 4F 00 04 00 00 00 fx...PRINCO.....
    00 00 00 00 05 88 80 00 00 00 01 00 06 09 13 11 ................
    87 78 80 00 07 88 80 00 00 00 00 00 08 01 1B 0D .x..............
    0F 0B 08 00 09 97 08 0F 0C 62 00 00 0A 00 00 00 .........b......

Or similar, it's 4x, update your A05 firmware to the latest, make sure it's set to master, and DMA is on.

If the bold letters are different (B and P, or J and P, instead of L and R) and/or it says vx PRINCO not fx PRINCO, then it is 1x Princo media.

There are a couple of varations of both the 1x and 4x Princo media, if you post the complete media ID, it would be easy to tell if it's 1x or 4x.

Use the advdinfo with the 0E - Pre-Recorded Information in Lead In

If you can't find advdinfo get it here http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd-r_tools/advdinfo.cfm
