Sorry for the long message:
I'll start with the problem, and if you want the background, read on (Saving reading time for those who may not want/need the background)
Problem:
I have VOB files that have been extracted with DVD Decryptor. I moved them to a directory and titled it VIDEO_TS. I also create an empty directory titled AUDIO_TS. When I use Record Now DX to copy them to a DVD, I immediatedly get the error "Data Job Terminated with Errors". I don't have this problem doing it the same way if I author a DVD with DVD Workshop first and create teh directories with teh authored files. Any ideas?
Background:
I have some DVDs that my granddaughter loves to play. She is wanting to put them in the DVD herself. She is 3 1/2, so you know how that goes. But she can actually do it and get it to playing...
Anyway...as you can imagine, I am thinking it may be fun to let her do that, but I thought I would like to burn the original off on a DVD, so if she scratches them up, so what.
So, I have used DVD Decryptor to pull some files off into a directory. On the one I am experimenting with, DVDDecryptor automatically selected the movie that is modified. (This DVD has both the widescreen and modified versions). In this case, the whole movie should fit on 1 DVD, as I won't put both versions on it.
What I have found successful in burning my movie DVDs (family movies from Digital cam, and Digital photos) that I create from Premier, and author in DVD Workshop, is to use Record Now DX, create a Data DVD, copy the Autio_TS and Vidoe_TS directories over, and burn. (Have experimented with Nero, and several other methods...found this to be simplest and most reliable...another topic.)
But the metod above is not working.
The Rip guides talk about doing ISO, but that would create too large a file for 1 DVD. It seems like these VOBs should copy over OK. They do play on the PC.

You must rip the entire dvd, you can't just take some vobs. Then you can use dvd shrink, dvd2one, instantcopy and select what part you want and make a new working dvd.

Hi Baldrick
I'm curious. If I must rip the entire DVD, then why does DVD Decryptor have the option of Select Main Movie Files? And, at the GUIDE at the DVD Decryptor site, it says, "The 'Main Movie' files will have already been selected for you, so you really only have to press that big button to get the ripping underway! " I took that quote right from the page.
This is what I did. It selected the entire movie (non-wide screen version), but not the entire DVD (which was both prints of the move). I then took those files and put in the directories.
That all being said, I am gathering that what I am trying to do is wrong, given that it doesn't work, but that information is quite confusing. Thanks

Bear in mind that RecordNow Max does a very good job of not allowing you to burn coasters or DVD's that do not conform to the DVD specification. Before it burns, it verifies that the DVD files i.e. IFO's are valid. You may be experiencing a problem because the DVD files are out of sync. For example, the IFO file may say it has x titlesets but the number is not the same as the actual VOB files on the disc.
The reason why you have no problems with DVD workshop is because the tool generates the correct DVD files. This cannot be guaranteed when files have been ripped etc.
If the DVD you are ripping is dual layer, you will have to do a "get sectors" with IFOedit. Or you may have to recreate the IFO file to confrom with the VOB files you ripped. This can be done with IFOedit.
BTW, do not rely on the fact that if a DVD plays OK on your PC, that it will play on a standalone. Most PC DVD players ignore DVD specification authoring errors.
Just a few thoughts.
Good luck. -
You don’t have to rip the entire DVD, however, when you rip part of the DVD (the files that DVD Decypter automatically selects), you have to adjust the files so that the DVD plays correctly. That can be done in either Ifoedit or DVD2One. Hope that clears things up. Let me know if you need specific help in using either of these programs. As mentioned earlier, RecordNowMax will not burn an incorrect DVD structure.

The last two replys really clears things up, I suspect. Hmmm...So I need to learn another tool.
I'll do a little checking. Thought that as I only wanted one movie, and that one as selected with DVD Decryptor fit on 1 disk, it would be easy. Guess I'll have to do a little more playing, more purchase of tools, more time. Keeps me entertained.
Since my last post, I had tried copying the files with another program. They copied, but didn't play. That explains that too. The good news is REcord Now, theoretically keeps you from burning coasters. But in reality, what happend, was the error was so cryptic that what happend was I have spent a bunch of time jacking with stuff, trying other programs, and still burnt a coaster :PThanks

IF you rip just 'the main movie' you will not get the VIDEO_TS.IFO and other files necessary for the DVD to play correctly. You can easily fix this however.
1) Rip main movie in DVD decypter to VIDEO_TS folder
2) Run IFOEdit, load the IFO file from your rip, then click 'get VTS sectors'
3) Burn as normal
That's from memory but it should work. -
You are dealing with two different animals here, AVI from your Digital camcorder and DVD files from a DVD. And I think this issue is beyond a 3 1/2 years olds capability other than just clicking the mouse. Theres two routes to take, the one baldrick quoted and vejita-sama. Its down to your level of knowledge and experience. But make sure you read and understand whats in the kitchen. Even a seasoned cook can get the final taste wrong. Good luck.

jdizzy40...you can say that again.
All this stuff is painful. Seems like what works for one doesn't for someone else. And different brands of DVDs...same thing. Different DVD players...same thing. If there's anything standard about this stuff, seems like no one is reading it.
I just tried, w/o reading any instructions, to create a new IFO file f rom IFOEditSo much for that. Of course, it wasn't right.
Guess I'll start with pulling it fresh off of DVD Decryptor, and look for some guides, and see if I can figure it out. Thanks

Try this . Rip the main movie files using DvdDecrypter in file mode .
Use DVD2ONE or some like program in the movie only mode to process the files .
Burn with your favorite software . -
I succeeded this morning. I found a new program, that is free, called DVD Shrink. It takes care of the copy protection, and allows you to shrink larger DVDs to a Single DVD, etc.
The good thing about this is, it doesn't take a pass through a group of programs to get it done. The one thing it does not do is burn the DVD. It creates the files on HD, then you need to burn the DVD with a burning program.
I'll be able to let my grandaughter go at 'emThanks
