I have a few files in Mpeg1-PS (Program Stream) format. I'm not entirely clear on the differences between Mpeg1-PS and Mpeg1.

Does anyone know how to get these files into a VCD-ready state? They'll play in MPlayer and VLC, but Toast and Missing Media Burner say they are invalid files, as does FFMpegX. Quicktime crashes if I attempt to export it.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried to make a VCD image file with it?

Id try that and see what happens.

VCDTOOLSX is my favorite, though there are lots!

just open the app, choose the 2nd option, which is make image, select your .mpeg file, choose VCD 1.0 or 2.0 (whatever you want) and make the .bin/.cue set.

then open the .bin with VLC, see if it plays
if it does, burn it with either Missing Media Burner, or Firestarter and you got your VCD.

When I try that, the "Start" button just "blinks". It doesn't do anything.

I tried burning with Missing Media Burner again, and noted the terminal output. I think the relevant text is:

    Code:
++ WARN: mpeg scan: pack header code (0x000001ba) expected, but 0x52494646 found (buflen = 2324)
++ WARN: ...this looks like a RIFF header but a plain multiplexed program stream was required.
**ERROR: input mpeg stream has been deemed invalid -- aborting
    Anyone know what this means?

I've learned that a RIFF header can also be found in CDROM-XA tracks. I used cdxa2mpeg from the VCDImager package to extract the mpeg file.

What's the file extension on MPG-PS files? Have you tried VCDGearX in MPG->MPG mode? Are there separate video and audio streams? Have you tried renaming them to .mpg and trying? Will QT play them?
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

That would be my next suggestion, see if that helps any.
