Let me qualify this by saying I don't know the first thing about DV (which is what I assume this does by looking at the name).
My friend asked my help. He has a brand new laptop (2.5GHZ I think) and said he was using a dazzle capture device. I asked if it was firewire and he said it was. After some conversation (and his description), I learned it was a DVC-80.
Here is his problem. He can burn his product to a DVD and watch it fine on his DVD player (standalone). However, when he tries to use it with WinDVD, he gets audio but no video. BUT, store bought DVDs play fine on it.
He mentioned something about a conversion with some dazzle provided software.
So, is their any other software he can use to capture this? Can he use something else to convert it? Why won't it play on his computer. Does dazzle have some kind of propritary MPEG-2 codec his computer won't play? That was my immediate thought (codec) but like I said, he can play store bought DVDs fine.
What do you think?

This is what I do with DVC80
1) I capture using moviestar 5 then I encode it with TMPGenc then I burn it with DVD complete I have done over 40 DVD's with no problem..
Moviestar 5 and DVD complete came with DVC 80.
What work for me might not work for him every computer is different even knowing that they have the same hardware
