  1. I have a dual 867 g4 with 1 GB ram installed running OSX 10.2.6

I have the cleaner 6 and i am trying to make AVI to mpeg/vcd.

I dont know why, but for some reason, the time it takes to do this says 30 hours. On a PC using tmpeg it only took about 3 hours to do the movie of the same size. Am I doing something wrong?

Yes ... You're using Cleaner. That is a notoriously slow piece of software ... and for the results you're going to get, you'd be better off using Toast's VCD encoder, or ffmpegX.

  3. ok, I am trying ffmpegx. Is there no onlibe guide with pictures that guides you through making AVI to mpeg1/VCD? There are many guides on this site to help you with the PC side, but no picture guides for mac...

anyways, As I am encoding now using ffmpegx, I notice that it does not have a "status bar" letting me know how much is left to encode..... After I hit encode, I notice my CPU monitor working, and also it produces a file myfilename.m1v, but it is still encoding. Any guides out there?

A "guide with pictures" - but what pictures would there be???

ffmpex screenshot and a screenshot of the terminal???

Major's website http://homepage.mac.com/major4/ has essentially all the pictures you need.

each tab is explained in full detail which is nice since you can see options you may want to click.

I used Quicktime Pro back when I would do .avi to .mpeg/vcd. its EXPORT TO TOAST VCD option was nice, and it has a progress bar

Also, I believe ffmpegx will show you progress, keep in mind its TEXT and displayed in the terminal but it should give you an idea of whats going on.
