    I just got a ATI AIW 7500.
I captured a video using this guide: http://lordsmurf.hypermart.net/conversion/dvdguide.htm

But now I end up with a .VCR file. How do I convert it to a MPG2 file? I did specify in the setting to capture to MPG2...
    Thanks

To get to your question, that doesn't sound right. You should have MPEG2 files if you are using a new version, and you properly setup MPEG2 as the capture format. It is specified in two locations on some of the newer versions. It says "VCR & MPEG" then you go to the next screen and specify MPEG, otherwise it defaults to VCR.

Note: I've actually got to update that guide when I get the chance again in a few weeks: There appear to be some authoring packages that will natively accept the ATI AIW MPEG2 files without the field-order correction process in TMPGenc, thus knocking that step out completely (newest DVD Workshop and final version SpruceUp). The older DVD Workshops, old Spruce versions, DVDit! LE/SE/PE, and MyDVD fail. Not tested are DVDlab, Scenarist, Maestro (too hard to use or I do not have them) and a few cheapies like TMPGencAuthor and NeoDVD4 (crap options, not what I want). After successfully testing several dozen USA NTSC DVD players, I've also decided to remain with MP2 audio now - its makes less steps yet again when you start out with perfect source. I've also upgraded to DX9.0a, WMP9, ATI June 2003 drivers and MMC 8.1 (the new 8.5 will not install properly). With a few minor annoyances, it seems pretty stable so far, and I've made a few discs just fine since the upgrades.

  3. If you open up the MMC library (should be on the MMC toolbar) then right click on the file you've just created then there is an option to "convert to MPEG2". The resultant file however is not as good quality as the native MMC MPEG2 capture

    Thanks...
I was not using the right "record" button.
    It works now!
