this is going to depend on so many factors, there is no good answer for you.

what software are you using? where is your source coming from? what kind of video is it? what codecs are you using?

there was another thread with some good info, I have to look it up and I'll post a link here later today - had some good links on filter tutorials for Virtualdub.

    edit: here's the link https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=164765

but you need to give more information on what you are trying to do, and the resources you are trying to do it with...

  3. i am capturing with an ati aiw video card....usually it's a capture straight off the tv signal coming into the card...lately i've been using virtual vcr to cap to avi using an mjpeg compression cos it seems to give me better results than capping directly to mpg using the ati software

my goal is to capture the video, edit out commercials, apply filters where necessary and then burn to vcd format

i have a 1.33 ghz athlon, capping to a dedicated hard drive, and an ati aiw card as said before...don't know if this information is necessary to determine which filters to use....seems like picking filters would be more dependent on incoming signals and software settings

If you are capping directly from cable or satellite, then you probably don't need any filters. Take the time to learn what filters do what and when to apply them. Check out w w w.dome9.net forums for lots of good help.
