  2. Not necessarily.

If it doesn't specifically say it supports DVDR the only way you'll know if it works is to test it out (I usually take a test disk with me to Best Buy before I buy a new player -- this is also a good way to determine if the disks you make are compatible with other brands).

  4. It sounds like the salesman doesn't know much more than you do about the whole thing -- sorry, I'm not trying to be unkind.

A DVDR is a DVDR -- nothing will *change* it into anything different. What the salesman is referring to is that it needs to be "finalized" so that it will play on those players that support DVDR. That doesn't make it a commercial DVD, and it will NOT play on any player that doesn't support DVDR.

So look up your player and if it doesn't support DVDR, then it won't play your disk. Plain and simple (just buy a player that will -- most players made in the last year or so play DVDR just fine).

  6. You could look on the left here -- where it says DVD Players.

People have reported information for various makes and models. Here are the Pioneer players (with yours listed)

    https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDname=Pioneer&Submit=Search&Search=Search

According to this list that player does indeed support both + and - DVDR, so you should be just fine (well, as fine as these things ever go...)

  8. The link you posted doesn't say it *doesn't* support DVDR -- it just doesn't say that it does.

The players database here on this site lists people's experience with the units, and not necessarily the manufacturer's specifications.

Obviously, if a manufacturer says something supports something there is more weight behind it, but just because it doesn't list it doesn't mean it won't work. Prior to the last year or so most companies didn't say their units supported DVDR because, quite frankly, no one could really create any (well, *very* few people) and it wasn't something they either tested nor worried about.

But if you already have this player just go ahead and test it yourself -- if you can't currently create a DVDR I'm sure you can find a friend nowadays who will. It if works then it works.

their answer:" Hi,DVD-Video will support DVD-R".

and if they did it's meen that every dvd player could play dvd-r even if it's not saying in it spec that it support dvd-r?
