  1. I've really been trying to get my divx movies to svcd as I would assume they are better.. however, I have lots of problems out of sync etc..and can't figure out what resolution i should be using.. anyone have any rules of thumb? It seems like everytime I try to convert the divx.. say it's a resolution of 5xx by 4xx then everytime I load up the svcd template.. and preview it, it's all stretched or looks funny.. should it be 1:1VGA or 4:3?

    Sorry guys and gals!!!

So last night I created a vcd using Tmpeng and it worked perfectly.. quality looks pretty good.. I like that I don't have to worry about the resolution.. and are SVCD's better than XVCD's?? And is the difference in quality between svcd/xvcd/vcd really that noticable...??

  2. Well, it really depends. If you DivX movie looks like crap the VCD or SVCD will both look bad. My Experience is alot better with SVCD than XVCD, because my player doesn't seem to be able to play XVCDs. Since it's a DivX movie it will probably won't make all that big difference.

  3. so if you're working with a very good quality source, vcd or svcd won't make too much difference??

svcd got a bigger res and more capabilities; it looks better but some ppl wont notice it; no matter what input u got (though with high quality input you notice it a lot better)

  5. Like Nidoran said, it's alot easier to notice the difference with high quality input. With a bad input file, the result will probably be bad whichever you chose =) SVCD is using higher bitrates and higher resolution and IMO looks better most of the time, if the source was good enough.

  6. ah.. i see.

Thanx everyone... the big thing that I had noticed was alot more blockiness with svcd than just regular vcd.. Considering my dvd player is hooked up thru my vcr's video jacks.. as my tv only has the actual cable in. no s-video, composite, just straight 1 jack cable.. i think I'll go the vcd route for now... if they are divx dvd rip quality etc... thx again!

I'm assuming TMPeng is best for vcd?
