  1. i'm gonna have to buy one so i might as well bend over. please help me out on choosing the most affordable tbc. i rather spend the money once and get one that works rather than buy an el cheapo and waste my money. however, cheap is good if it works. i've heard a lot about the tbc-1000. thanks to all who choose to help.

I have a TBC-1000 and a TBC-4000. I got a little too excited on EBay and ended up winning both! The TBC-4000 is nice because it has video proc controls, but otherwise the TBC-1000 provides the same quality. Both units soften up my SVHS tapes a little, but I can compensate for that by setting my VCR to edit mode. If you are putting two hours on a DVD, then this filtering may actually help the encoding process. Using the TBC has eliminated the video/audio skew problems that I was experiencing. Both units are built very well, prosumer quality.

I got the TBC-1000 used via Ebay for $215 after shipping. Most places I have seen charge around $279 for a new unit.
