  1. Hello,
If I convert a DVD9 to DVD5 and decide to strip some audio streams, would it be sufficient to just keep the AC3-6ch or will non-surround people not be able to get any sound at all then?

I.e. my question is really, should I keep both the streams or not? =)

As long as you keep the 6 channel track, you will always get audio on any tv, you just may or may not get any form of surround sound with it.

The 2.0 track is simply for those people who have Dolby Surround sound recievers that don't support prologic. These receivers cannot output a 6 channel track as Dolby Surround, so without the 2.0 track all you get is plain stereo.

On a prologic reciever you would still get prologic surround, and on a DD reciever obviously you would get 5.1 surround.

If I were you I'd just strip it.

  3. Just keep the 6 channel. You will still be able to get 2 channel stereo out of it. It will also free up more space for a higher quality image. However, DTS will not play unless you have the specific decoder that you would need.

  4. Oh, thanks for those quick replies. I did strip the 2-ch which allowed me to go one compression level better, glad it will work for stereo users too. I decided not to go for any DTS on any 9-5 because of the size and compatibility issues.
