hi,
can anybody help,
why do the above discs play on some stand alone dvd players
and not others,
i have a pioneer dvd player which does not have a problem
playing the discs,
my mates dvd player won,t play the same discs.
is this because the dvd player is old
or could it be the make of discs being used
the discs are datawrite + princo dvd-r 4x.

It is most likely because your friends machine is old. Remember when recordable cd's first came out. Older machines could not play them.
With DVD's.....the -r format came out a couple of years before the +r so it is slightly more compatable with older machines but newer machines shouldn't have trouble with either....I have burned both and had no problems on any machines that came out in the past 1 or 2.
The basic problem is that we really aren't making cd's or dvd's...just really good fakes.....
With a real disc...the laser either gets reflected back or goes straight through....with burned media we can not go straight through.....What we do is either reflect the laser back, or off at an angle (when we burn it dispurses the media slightly so light doesn't get reflected back evenly)
Older machines get confused with this and read the both the light getting reflected back straight and on an angle. -
try searching the forums for this one m8 cos it has been asked sooooo many times before. also, u will prob discover a lot on the pros & cons of each format which is interesting 2 read.
1)Why Not Overclock a little?! speed 4 free!!!!
2) If your question has anything to do with copying PS2/PC/XBox games, find a more appropriate website
