Ok i have authored 2 films, that i have converted from svcd.
I merged the two files together, then converted to dvd pal using tmpgenc.
then i split the mpg and authored the dvd in ifo edit to get the vob and ifo and bup files.
I have burned it 3 ways.
Nero
Instant CD/DVD 6
and creating a .img file and burning with dvd decrypter
I have set nero and instant dvd to use udf 1.02
none have worked on my matsui 110 which in the compatability guide says supports dvd-r.
I am using a Pioneer 105, win xp, and P4 1.4ghz with 1 gig of ddr ram.
Is there anything else i could try to make them work. they have worked on half of the set top dvds i have tested. but i would like them to work on the ones that say they support dvd-r.
thanks for any help offered.

I have probably one of the most pickey DVD players in the world. The DVD needs to be authored "just right" for it to work since it expects 100% compliant DVD's. IFOedit authored DVD's do not work, my player either spits out the DVD or refuses to read the IFO's (says that the DVD in the drive has no titles on it)....and I've had the same experience with other free or el-cheapo authoring programs which I suspect may be due to the "hacked together" nature and not making 100% compliant IFO's (someone correct me if I'm wrong here). I also have one of those asian DVD players that will play anything I throw at it, so it really depends on the player ( I once authored a DVD and forgot to burn the files in a VIDEO_TS folder....but it still played)
I suspect your problem is not with that your player won't read DVD-R's but it is having trouble interpreting the IFO's. If you can get your hands on it, try DVD Maestro, otherwise try DVD-Lab...both will make compliant DVD's.
Also, when I burn my DVD's I use NERO but I create a new ISO/UDF project and manually create the audio_ts and video_ts folders. For some reason, creating a new DVD Video project doesn't work.
Hope some of this helps"Weekends don't count unless you spend them doing something completely pointless."

ifo edit makes 100% dvd compliant files if u know what u are doing
srscaife
try burn at udf 1.05 or get gear pro (free trial)
http://download.com.com/3120-20-0.html?qt=gear+pro+6&tg=dl-2001&search=+Go%21+
gear will let u know before hand if the files are 100% dvd compliant
plus it will play in everything -
I must not know what I'm doing then since I've never had an IFOedit authored DVD work in my player
Not that I care at the moment since I have a method that is easy (for me at least....and that is what counts)"Weekends don't count unless you spend them doing something completely pointless."

thanks for the help peeps, in reply to the post about nero, I am using the latest version. I have recordnow max but dont know how to use it.
In recordnow max do i have to burn the .img? If there is a tutorial for burning in recordnow max i would be grateful if you could point me in the right direction.
DVD-rw just does nothing so i guess my player cant read them. The dvdr i burned plays for 3 seconds then locks up the player and it wont give me the disc back until i turn it off.
I will give dvd maestro a try i'm sure i can get my hands on it.
vance43211 thanks for the link i will give that a try and see what it makes of my ifos. I followed the guides to the letter so they should be 100% compliant, but chances are something went wrong, it always does when u are just starting out, hehe. If my ifos are wrong what should i do i noticed a post about stripping data out of the iso's is that what i'll need to do
Also if 1.02 doesnt work will udf 1.05 work. I would have thought that 1.02 would have been more suitable in a 6 year old standalone. I assume that udf 1.05 is a newer standard, although i dont know nothing about them. This i will try when i get home tonight.
thanks for the help, its much appreciated.
