  1. hey all. lately, when i try to re-encode a vcd compliant mpeg file to vcd mpeg (dont ask, need to do it), tmpgenc crashes, worse, it takes down my winxp. completely freezes everything and only a reboot solves this.
i tried 10 different vcd mpegs. sometimes it crashes/freezes, sometimes it works...on the same file. it also doesnt always crash at the same timecode.
it used to do this only when i was batch-encoding stuff. then it sometimes bailed on me somwhere in the batchlist. now tmpgenc does it even when i reenc a single file.
I did reinstall tmpgenc, i also increased the DS plugin to +2/+3, disabled all the others i didnt need. no change.

anyone got any clue what causes this or how to solve it?

That actually sounds like a hardware problem to me. Some problems can appear when doing intensive things like encoding video or compiling software even though the machine seems to run perfectly during casual day-to-day use like web surfing, Office applications, etc.

A few first things to try:
    • run a memory testing program (I don't know of one I can recommend for Windows, sorry)
    • check all your fans and cooling to make sure the machine isn't overheating
    • reseat your memory and CPU

  3. thanks. will check on my hardware. on another note, it never crashes/freezes when i framserv the same shit from VD to CCE. and i guess that process doesnt really use less resources

  4. Hi All,
I had the very same thing happen to me. When Xp froze up a reboot was all that would help. It happened on most of the films i tried to encode and I searched for months for an answer. In the end I found out that it was a codec conflict. I had nimo build 9 and k-lite codec installed at the same time. When I uninstalled both, installed ffd(check this site for details) and then k-lite my encode works perfectly. This is just my experience and I dont know if our problems are the same, but its worth a try.
    Good Luck. :P
