how to repair booming/hissing audio

Hi All

ive Been getting some DVD's Lately with perfect Picture But god Awful Sound (You Know The Ones I mean )

Had an idea that i must be able to put the audio thru some audio Program with Filters/Settings that will lessen the booming sound when noisey/action Scenes and the hissing/humming noise when quieter Sences are playing.

My only prob is i havnt a clue what Audio program will do this and what settings/filters i would use, i have searched for a guide to my problem but with no luck.

Can anyone point me in the right diriction of a guide for this or tell me what Program and settings/filters i would use?

Lots of audio editing programs out there. Easy CD Creator has a simple one built in whic has presets for LP, Tape and CD. Pinnacle Clean 4.0 will clean up sound, split tracks, remix for urround sound. Check reviews or down load trials.

i have cool edit so will give it a go for hissing noise.

dont have goldwave for booming noise tho, which is the more annoying of the 2
