    im still very new at this, but iv noticed it takes a LONG time for me... i heard people say they do the whole thing in 30mins.... well it seems to me that there are at least 2 different steps.... and I cant even do 1 step in 30mins...

    when i did a dvd5 with dvddecryter only, it seemed to be the fastest way... it took about 30-45mins

    but if i did dvdshrink, it took about 45mins
    then if i did nero or dvddecrypter it took another 45mins.... so it seems like most dvds are dvd9.... so is an 1.5-2hours normal??? i have a 4x burner... why it take so long?

  2. About 1 to 11/2hours is about right. It depends on the size of the movie. It takes me 25 to 35 min for dvd decripter with the firmware hack to unlock the ripping speed. About the same time for DVD2One. 15 min to burn 4X and 30 for 2X.

    for a dvd-5, it takes about 45 minutes.

    for a dvd-9, it takes about 75 minutes.

    dvd-5 is done as an ISO with DVD Decrypter.

    dvd-9 is ripped with Decrypter (15min > ), shrunk with DVD2one (20min> ), and burned with Nero on my Sony DRU500AX (30 minutes for a full disc [2x])

    I haven't found media that will consistently read as 4x on my burner, so my burns take longer than they should.

  4. For burning only it's pretty much:

    1x = 60min
    2x = 30min
    4x = 15min

    However, the leadin and writeout can take an extra 2-5min. I once burnt a 35MB DVD (only menus I was trying to test them out and wanted to see what the different fonts looked like on the TV, etc). And it took 7min because of the leadin/out (but only ~1min to actually burn IIRC).

  5. Well, I'm also new to this stuff and when I author my DVD's it takes huge amounts of time. It seems that my program (tried Dazzle DVD Complete, MovieFactory) wants at least 3 times the length of the source file just to make the damn vob files!!! (1h film takes 3h to make ready for recording) My source is DV files imported by Firewire and edited in Premiere, saved in AVI format.

    Is this normal???

    The actual burning is going fast though.

    I'm currently running a PIII 700 but are uppgrading soon

  6. It takes about 15 minutes max for me to rip a DVD using SmartRipper, then if I use DVD2one another 15 minutes, and finally if I use 4x DVD-r media 15 minutes to burn. Total time 45 minutes.
