  1. Hi all,

When i started capping form TV i used IUVCR. This outputs an AVI file which i then converted to MPEG-2 for SVCD. I use TMPEnc for this. I always liked the 'reduce noise' filter a lot because it does wonders for me as my TV signal is not good for all channels (little to weak i guess).
Anyway, form AVI to MPEG-2 is going well (allthough it takes a lot of time).
    Now my problem.
I recently obtained the program WinDVR 3, which is able to capture to MPEG-2 immediately. This is great (to me), it saves me a lot of space and also saves me a lot of time to convert form AVI to MPEG-2. But this MPEG file i get still has all the noise which i used to remove during the conversion form AVI to MPEG.
First i thought, well i'll just load the file into TMPEnc and do the same thingy with that noise reducing filter. But, TMPEnc won't let me load the file (only in the MPEG tool). Well, i thought, maybe VirtualDub. It loads the file fine, but i don't have this noise removeal filter and also i cannot find how to save to MPEG (only to AVI).
So, in the end, my real question:
How do i go about removing noise from an MPEG-2 file....without going to AVI first and the back again.

Hope some1 can direct me to a help page or soemthing.

  2. I can't help with all your questions, but I'm afraid to say VirtualDub won't be able to help you, AFAIK it can't save to mpeg1/2 formats. Even if you'd load the file into tmpenc you'd lose some general definition by rendering the mpeg2 file again..

If you're determined to pursue realtime mpeg 2 capturing, I would think the area you need to look at are there any prefilters that can be applied to the capturing,(in the way of noise reduction settings?).

Okay. Virtual Dub does have a reduce noise filter, they are called denoise filters, just look through the filters. Second, there is a way to save to an MPEG-2 file using Virtual Dub and TMPGEnc at the same time, called frameserve (frameservice?). I even hear the framserve function is a little faster than TMPGEnc alone. And finally, I suggest you do nothing during capture but capture. Keep as little workload on the CPU as possible.
    Hello.

  4. Hmmm...allright. So you are saying that i must use TMPEnc and VirtualDub together? Can you direct me perhaps on this can be done?
    I have both programs

  6. Allright thanx...this seems to do what i would need. However, not to sound unthankful, but it also looks like way too much actions for (what i think) is a simple job. But i may be wrong off course.
Why can't TMPEnc load the captured file directly and work with it. TMPEnc makes mpeg's right, so why can't it load them. It seems very strange to me that a program cannot read it's own format. I might be totally wrong (i probably am...), but can't it be done more simple?
I started capturing directly to mpeg because it would save me the trouble of converting AVI to MPEG. Now i have MPEG and i only need to remove some noise and now i get back to the same number of steps.
If i'm thinking the wrong way, just say so, because i am fairly new at this.

    Cheers,
