I have an avi file that I converted to Mpeg1 and then VCD. I then recoded the file as per the vcd header trick instructions to Mpeg2 then used TMPGEnc to convert header, but when i did this, new file would not play and file was unrecognisable as colour was all like patchwork over screen.
Up to converting the header back from MPEG2 to MPEG1-Video CD(non standard) through TMPGEnc video would play OK on any viewer.
    MPEG2 video stream was Mpeg2 Video 352x288 25fps 4000 kbps Audio was Mpeg1 audio layer 2 44100hz 384kbps.
I have recoded my original mpeg1 file twice, once with TMPG and also Ulead Movie Studio to Mpeg2 stage and all play ok
When multiplexing I got a message buffer underflow might cause problems when viewing, which was right I couldn't view. I then did it again with the original file, after multiplexing got no message and then TMPGEnc continued with process and rewrote header. Tried to view file but still got patchwork of colour and file would not play
Am I doing something wrong original conversion to VCD plays fine on my player but cannot get header trick to work so I can view final product.

  2. Confused by what you wrote.
    Try this.
Convert your avi to SVCD using TMPGEnc. Then under MPEG tools, multiplex, changed MPEG-2 to MPEG-1 non-standard.
    Burn this.
NOTE the CD-R you use for a VCD might not work for a SVCD with the header trick. Have come across this problem myself. Might have to try different CD-Rs. The more expensive the better quality. Use a CD-RW.
    Hope this helps.

  3. whenever i use a vcd header on an mpeg2 file my computer also will not playback correctly, with green patchwork all over. However, when i use the same mpeg in vcdeasy to create an image, the vcd plays jsut fine in my dvd player. (if you use the vcd header trick on mpg2 and use vcdeasy, be sure to still select vcd2.0 as the type)
